Call meeting to order: 3:35 PM 2. Minutes a. Approval of 8/15/2013 GCEC minutes – Approved b. Review of draft 8/26/2013 GC minutes – Approved with revisions Revise “bring back to the GCEC” 3. Request for exceptions – Three items: Sharepoint a. MA Maritime Studies – Approved b. MA English – Approved c. MS Adult Education – Approved 4. Timing of Elections and eligibility requirements Consensus that members should have a formal responsibility to a graduate program o Preference of college to appoint , elect, or have an alternative member to serve out an expired term o Eligibility to serve is determined at the time the elections take place Since this is a practice, there is no need to change the Faculty Manual Alternate, appointee, or election to serve out expired term – preference of college 5. Develop agenda for September 2013 Gradate Council meeting a. Waiver of GRE requirements Waive GRE requirements for honors college students with early admissions, students that possess a master’s degree and professional track students b. Withdrawal policy revision c. Time-limit policy Consensus of the doctoral program directors is to institute a time limit policy with a 1 year extension allowed before time limit expires Institute a process where the Graduate School sends out a notice to all students at the beginning of their 6th year making them aware of the time limit policy d. e. f. g. h. i. j. Time limit policy will include transfer credits Doctoral candidacy policy revision Consensus there should be requirements determined by each individual program of study for the catalog Recommend candidacy students register for a 0 credit hour course (pass/fail) as a mechanism for record-keeping Dr. Gemperline will contact Angela Anderson regarding a 0 credit hour course and tuition and fee implications Graduate School review and approval of theses and dissertations Report on SACS on-site review, 18 hour rule, and in-classroom assessment of graduate teaching assistants record TA instructor of records must have a record of in-class teaching assessment 5000 level courses Report on Graduate Fact Book project Report on fall enrollment, market and recruiting efforts for upcoming year Report on enrollment in Graduate Certificate programs 6.
