Present: Mike Reynolds, Steve Brown, Par Mohammadian
1) Update and Status - Building/Classroom/ Prep Room/Lab Issues
 Wally will address the CMS issues in summer (see below: Issues in the CMS)**
2) Lab Supply Budget; need for Student Worker
 Mike will work with financial aid and business offices to transfer funds from the lab
supplies to the work study account and hire an additional work study student.
3) Update – Final Items on the FFE List
 BioPac and Gel doc system are missing. Mike/Steve/Pong to review the lists for more
items that may be missing. It should be communicated to Kelly as soon as possible.
4) Must check all microscopes over the summer
 Pong to check the microscopes in the Micro/Anatomy/Physio labs
 Nadine to check the microscopes in the Bio3 and 6/7 labs.
5) Update on STEM and Department Role
 Mike R to meet with Mike F on the summer research internship.
6) Biology 110 for UCLA Life Sciences 1,2,3,4
 Course currently offered by Pierce College. Mike/Steve edit the course outline (in
June) to present to the curriculum committee for possible offering in Spring
2014.
7) Biology 3 Hybrid class
 Par to prepare the course outline and the shell to present to the curriculum
committee.
 Mike to ask Said if anything else is required.
8) Status of SLO’s
 Par is preparing the physio SLO and the PLOs for HS and Bio degrees. Par is
working with Arthur to prepare the Anthro SLO courses.
 Steve to prepare the rubric and finalize the SLO for Bio6.

9) Changes to lab curriculum – Biology 3 and 6
 Inclusion of more fieldtrips is encouraged; possible facilities to visit: LA zoo,
Descanso Gardens, water treatment facility, Golden Road Brewery, campus pond,
Chaparral, etc.
 Mike to work with Nadine to explore and tag the plants on the East Campus.
10) Prerequisites – Changes – Initiate Study of Other Campuses
Discussion about English 21 or 28 as prerequisite for classes
Perhaps English 21 for Biology 3
Chemistry for Physiology?
 Mike to update the pre-requisite list; add Santa Monica College, CSUN, and
CUSLA to the list.
Additional items discussed:


Par to communicate to Donna (Librarian) to receive digital copies of her presentations
to her BIO3 and physio classes.
In June:
To receive training on ECD system & review all course SLOs and PLOs & finalize the BIO110
course outline
 Department meetings:
3rd Friday of each month at 9:00 am; next meeting will be on Friday, May
17th, 2013, at 9:00 am. Online/on the phone possibility if unavailable but
interested in being present.

Phones in labs No money but may be walkie talkie possible –will speak to Wally
Shower Issue – no drains will speak to Wally
Need to brace equipment to walls (Josh C. has ordered) will speak to Wally
Paper towel dispensers in lab will speak to Wally
No cold water in most (all?) of the labs will speak to Wally
Clocks are behind the screens will speak to Wally
Eyewash pressure too low – will speak to Wally
Bookcases bolted to walls in offices will speak to Wally




Soap in the bathrooms is like water can’t change it ecco
Paper towels in the bathrooms desired (jet engines) can’t change it ecco
Status of faculty/staff bathrooms (Par) can’t change it – ratio a problem
Building is too cold at times can’t change it


Student workers (efficiency in lab prep) – Contact Joe or financial aid office
Shelves in the lab: Edwin to work with Steve/Pong; Steve and I to assist if needed did
not discuss
Will we get new file cabinets? Order if in your budget

