REQUIREMENTS FOR UNCLASSIFIED SERVICE POSITIONS
NOTE: The term “student status” may refer to a full time or part time student. See Personnel Guide
B385, Section 1 for definition.
Career Guidance Counselor Assistant (8210). Full-time student status as an upper division or graduate
student in counseling or a related field at an accredited four-year college or university. Employee
Limitation: six years unless evidence is provided which demonstrates the student is diligently pursuing
the attainment of an academic degree.
Community Recreation Assistant II (8459). At least one year of prior experience in community
recreation or sports programs or closely related programs.
Community Recreation Assistant III (8458). At least two years of experience directly related to the
proposed assignment or its educational equivalent.
Community Recreation Director I (8425). At least one year of previous experience reasonably related
to the proposed assignment or its educational equivalent.
Community Recreation Director II (8423). At least two years of previous experience reasonably
related to the proposed assignment or its educational equivalent.
Community Recreation Director III (8421). At least three years of experience which involved
responsibility for directing community recreation programs or the coordinating of major sporting events.
Police Cadet I (8282). First year full-time student status with a major in Administration of Justice or its
equivalent at a college of the Los Angeles Community College District.
Police Cadet II (8283). Second year full-time student status with a major in Administration of Justice or
its equivalent at a college of the Los Angeles Community College District.
Pool Lifeguard (8453). A valid certificate or its equivalent in senior life saving and standard first aid
from the Red Cross.
Program Assistant (8221). Student status at an accredited two or four year college or university enrolled
in a program of student reasonably related to the proposed assignment. Must have completed a minimum
of 24 units of a directed course of study. Employment Limitation: five years.
Student Advertising Manager (8225). Student status at an accredited two or four year college or
university. Sales experience is desirable. Employment Limitation: three years.
Student Assistant (8685). Student status in an accredited high school, college or university.
Employment Limitation: five years.
Student Assistant SFP (8689). Student status in an accredited high school, college, or university. Must
meet the eligibility requirements of the program in which assigned. Employment Limitation: three years.
Student Law Clerk I (8216). Second year student status in an accredited school of law. Employment
Limitation: two years.
Student Law Clerk II (8215). Third year student status in an accredited school of law. Employment
Limitation: two years.
Student Tutor I (8272). Student status at an accredited two or four year college or university.
Successful completion of at least one course in the subject matter area being tutored. Employment
Limitation: three years unless evidence is provided which demonstrates the student is diligently pursuing
the attainment of an academic degree.
Student Tutor II (8273). Student status at an accredited two or four year college or university.
Successful completion of at least two courses in the subject matter area being tutored or at least one
course in each of a number of subject matter areas within a broad academic discipline. Employment
Limitation: three years unless evidence is provided which demonstrates the student is diligently pursuing
the attainment of an academic degree.
Student Tutor III (8274). Student status at an accredited two or four year college or university.
Successful completion of a minimum of thirty semester units which must include the subject matter are
being tutored. Employment Limitation: three years unless evidence is provided which demonstrates the
student is diligently pursuing the attainment of an academic degree.
Student Tutor IV (8275). Student status as an upper division or graduate student with a major in the
academic subject matter area being tutored. Employment Limitation: five years unless evidence is
provided which demonstrates the student is diligently pursuing the attainment of an academic degree.
Student Veteran’s Advisory (8218). Full-time student status at an accredited two or four year college or
university and status as a veteran of the U.S. armed forces eligible to receive veteran’s benefits under the
appropriate Public Laws. Employment Limitation: four years.
