Imitators of Christ Constitution
Preamble:
We, the formers of this constitution, desire to provide Houghton College students with
mentoring relationships from Christian members of the surrounding communities. These
relationships will foster spiritual growth, provide encouragement, guidance, accountability, and
prayer, based on the Word of God. Together, those involved will become imitators of Christ.
Article I: Name
Imitators of Christ or Making Disciples: Christian Mentoring Program
“ Follow my example as I follow the example of Christ.” 1 Corinthians 11:1
Article II: Purpose
The purpose of this organization is to promote a nurturing relationship between students
and Christian community members for the spiritual growth of those involved.
Article III: Membership
Section A: Types
1.) Protégé/Mentee: A Student of Houghton College may become a protégé by
providing his/her name and contact information so that he/she may be
involved in the activities of the organization.
2.) Mentor: Members of the surrounding communities who are Christians and
participating in worship at a local church may become members by:
a. Providing member’s name and contact information.
b. Attending short training session
Section B: Roles
1.) Protégé:
a. The protégé is asked to set up times of meeting with his or her mentor.
b. Protégés are asked to attend organization activities.
2.) Mentors:
a. Mentors should be active in a local church and daily living as a
follower of Jesus Christ.
b. Mentors are asked to attend organization activities and obtain
materials for group (does not mean purchasing materials for each
protégé).
Article IV: Cabinet
Section A: Purpose
1.) Organize regular activities with the groups of mentors and protégés.
2.) Keep record of mentors and protégés, and update it regularly
Section B: Structure
1.) The cabinet will consist of the following officers: President, Faculty Advisor,
Communications Coordinator, Activities Coordinator, and Group
Coordinators.
2.) Current members of the cabinet shall elect cabinet members annually (see
Article VI).
3.) Cabinet members must have good standing academically and have been
involved in organization for one semester previous to being member of the
cabinet.
Section C: General Duties and Responsibilities
1.) Cabinet members are strongly encouraged to be at all organization meetings
2.) Cabinet members must attend cabinet meetings
3.) Cabinet members are encouraged to help plan and run activities.
Section D: Specific Duties and Responsibilities
1.) President
a. Calls regular meetings of the cabinet
b. Plans agenda of cabinet meetings
c. Guides flow of meeting and business discussed
d. Contact new/potential mentors and churches
2.) Faculty Advisor
a. Regularly contacts current mentors to discuss how groups are doing
b. Help in preparing/obtaining materials for mentor groups
3.) Communications Coordinator
a. Promote the awareness of the student body to the existence of this
organization
b. Keeps minutes of meetings
c. Keeps financial record of expenses and funds
4.) Activities Coordinator
a. Oversees planning of organization meetings
b. Oversees advertising of organization meetings
5.) Group Coordinators
a. Two positions
b. Along with Faculty advisor, keep up current mentor relations by
keeping an up-to-date list of mentors and protégés.
c. Develop questionnaire for mentor/protégé matching
d. Responsible for assigning student protégé with mentor.
Article V: Meetings
Section A: Organization Meetings
1.) Cabinet will organize 2 activities per semester for members of the
organization.
2.) Purpose of meetings is to encourage each other and share how mentoring
groups are doing, as well as prayer and worship.
Section B: Cabinet Meetings
1.) Shall be held once every two weeks.
2.) Meetings are called by the President.
3.) President shall set the agenda.
4.) Business to be discussed should be brought to the attention of the President or
Communications coordinator before the meeting, or during the meeting with
the approval of cabinet to discuss new business.
Article VI: Election
Section A: Requirements of Positions
1.) a student of Houghton College
2.) must be in good academic standing to run for cabinet positions
3.) participated in organization for 1 semester or more
Section B: Procedure
1.) members interested in being involved in cabinet must seek
appointment/election to position by previous cabinet.
2.) Name and reason for seeking position must be given to President or Secretary
one week prior to election date
3.) Majority of votes by current cabinet members determines whether or not
member is elected to cabinet
Article VII: Finances
Section A: Expenses
1.) Expenses shall be recorded and a receipt obtained
2.) Paid for by funds
Section B: Funds
1.) Funds obtained through SGA or fundraising
Article VII: Amendments
Amendments to the constitution are made by unanimous vote of the cabinet.
