The Decision-Making Process…
How you feel about making decisions plays an important role in how you approach the process of selecting a major. These exercises will help you
uncover how you feel about the process and how ready you are to decide!
ACTIVITY 1: Discovering Your Feelings
How do you feel now about choosing your major? Check the box(es) next to the adjectives that describe how
you are feeling.
 Anxious
 Confused
 Dejected
 Disappointed
 Excited
 Fearful
 Frustrated
 Happy
 Numb
 Pressured
 Relaxed
 Stressed
How do these feelings affect your motivation for engaging in the activities that will help you to choose a
major? (i.e. When I feel stressed, it is difficult for me to…)
ACTIVITY 2: Readiness to Begin the Process
It is important to acknowledge how ready or committed you are to selecting a major. Sometimes we are
motivated to accomplish a task because we genuinely want to have the satisfaction of accomplishing a goal.
We can also be motivated because of pressure to make a decision from important people. If you are not
motivated or tend to procrastinate in the tasks necessary to choose a major, you will probably not complete
the process.
Place an “X” on the line at the point that indicates your commitment and readiness to engage in the process of
choosing a major.
