APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS & PROGRAM INFORMATION
Program Description
The Ithaca College New York City Program is an internship-based program that
provides to seniors, juniors, and second semester sophomores an opportunity to gain
professional experience in their chosen fields. The program offers internships in a
variety of fields. In addition, students take major requirements and/or elective
courses.
Eligibility
1. Must have met the requirements for an internship in the major.
2. Completed 45 credits by the start of the semester in New York.
3. Be in good academic, judicial and *financial standing in your respective school and
Ithaca College, with no unresolved issues at the start date of your semester in New
York.
*Your name will be submitted to the Bursar’s Office to confirm that you are in good
financial standing with the college.
Application Process
1. You must meet the eligibility requirements.
2. Submit your completed application to your school representative by Monday,
October 13, 2014 before 4:00 p.m. You are responsible for making sure all
certification forms and letters of recommendation are sent to the Dean’s Office by
the deadline.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE AND CHECKLIST
A. Complete the following forms in your application packet:




PERSONAL INFORMATION SHEET
Complete these forms and include them with your application.
CONSENT/EMERGENCY FORMS
You must also obtain your parent or guardian's signature. Include the form in your
application along with your Emergency Contact Information Form.
STUDENT CONDUCT CERTIFICATION
Complete the top portion of this form and bring it to the Office of Judicial Affairs (2102 West
Tower Lobby). Judicial Affairs will forward the completed form to your school representative.
ACADEMIC RECOMMENDATION
You are responsible for making sure the recommendation form reaches your school
representative by the application deadline. You may include it with your submission to the
Dean’s Office, or you may have it faxed directly to the office. Please see form for details.
B. Submit the following materials with your application:

Include an updated resume.

TRANSCRIPT
Send in your transcript by connecting to the HomerConnect system, then click Student &
Financial Aid on the main menu and select Student Records & Billing Information. Follow the
Unofficial Academic Transcript link, select the transcript level (undergraduate) followed by the
“web student transcript” menu, then click the submit button.

PERSONAL ESSAY (2 pages maximum, double-space, Times New Roman with 12 pt font)
Your application must include a specific, well-organized, and honest essay in which you discuss
the New York City Program and the internship experience in relation to your academic and
career goals. Please number the pages and put your name at the top of each page. Be sure
to proofread your essay for grammar and spelling. Answer all of the following questions:
1. What are your specific short and long-term academic, career and personal goals?
2. How will your participation in the NYC Program help you meet your goals?
3. At what kind of organization would you like to intern? (you do not need to name
specific organizations)
4. What do you hope to gain (skills, knowledge, training, experience, etc.) through your
internship experience?
5. What experiences during the last two years have prepared you for an NYC internship?

The application fee of $35 fee will be waived for program applicants

October 13, 2014 before 4:00 p.m.
II.
SELECTION PROCESS & DECISION NOTIFICATION
A. Selection Criteria
Applications will be reviewed by the program staff. Selection is based on the following criteria:
1. How a NYC internship supports your academic and career goals.
2. Your specific preparation – courses and experiences – for an internship related to your major and
career goals.
3. Current cumulative grade point average.
4. Academic recommendation.
5. Judicial status.
B. Decision Letters
Decision letters will be emailed to your Ithaca College email (and to your advisor) on Friday,
October 24, 2014.
C. “Attendance Notification Form”
If accepted into the NYC Program, your acceptance letter will include an “Attendance
Notification Form.” This form is due to your school representative by Friday, October 31,
2014.
III. STUDENT ORIENTATION on the Ithaca College Campus
A. Spring 2015 ICNYC Students: Mandatory orientation will be held on Friday,
November 7, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in BUS 111.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
A. New York City Program Cost Information
1. APPLICATION FEE: None at this time.
2. TUITION: Students attending the Ithaca New York City Program are registered as full-time
Ithaca College students. Tuition costs are the same in Ithaca and in NYC.
3. HOUSING: Costs will be variable based on individual living location. Please see below.
4. FINANCIAL AID: All Ithaca College financial aid applies to this program, though work
study/college employment will not be available. If work study/college employment is part of
your financial aid package, we advise you to contact the Financial Aid Office.
5. ADDITIONAL COSTS: Students will be responsible for additional costs such as housing,
transportation to and around New York City, meals, laundry, books, telephone, and personal
items.
B. Housing Information: (Ithaca College does not provide housing in NYC. Students
secure their own NYC housing in consultation with their parents and guardians).
The New York City program requests that you find your own housing and share with your
classmates the expense of the higher costs of living in a major metropolitan area. Our
expectation is that you will want to prepare for independent living as part of your internship
experience. With an approach used by the Ithaca College London Center, we hope to develop
a list of possible landlords and housing options based on the experiences of our students and
the recommendations they make as the New York City Program grows. In the meantime, you
may want to consider Educational Housing Services which has locations in Manhattan and
Brooklyn, the International House, Webster Apartments, and the Markle Evangeline Residence
for Women. Consult with your parents and guardians concerning the best housing option for
you.
As you conduct your search for housing, consider your budget, that is, how much you have
available to cover the cost of rent, whether you have classmates with whom to share the
costs, and your access to transportation to the Industrial & Labor Relations (ILR) Center
where classes will be held and to your internship placement. Safety, cleanliness, and the
neighborhood environment are very important considerations in making your housing
decision.
V.
ACADEMIC & COURSE REGISTRATION INFORMATION

Students should generally register for 12 or more credits. The minimum number you can take is
12 credits; the maximum is 18. All students should consider registering for an internship.

REGISTRATION PROCEDURES
1. Students applying for the NYC Program should list the courses they intend to enroll in on the
Academic Information form in their application packet and submit it with their application.
2. You must obtain your advisor’s signature on the Academic Information form. This will ensure that
you have conferred with your advisor concerning your academic progress.
3. A list of courses to be offered and registration instructions will be available in your Dean’s
Office.
4. Students will have the opportunity to review their academic schedule with a member of the
program staff upon their arrival in New York City.

VI.
INTERNSHIP INFORMATION
Students accepted into the program should work closely with the internship coordinator for their
school (or department) and the Office of Career Services. The goal is to have an internship secured
prior to arrival in New York City.
