In this context, we'd like to suggest that it might be particularly helpful for committees overseeing curriculum to claim a more visible, public role than at other times. For instance, we wondered if it might be helpful for the faculty to be reminded (perhaps in an occasional open forum, or in a periodic email update?) that committee members are available to provide feedback and hear concerns, and that several committees have links on their webpages that allow faculty to submit proposals and/or questions. The H&S meeting also led us to ask, to what extent are these different committees speaking to one another? While there are structures at the all-college level and at the H&S to connect APC with CCR and HSCC with the H&S Gen Ed Committee, are there structures in place connecting the all college committees with the school level committees? If not, would it be worthwhile to consider putting new structures in place to increase the opportunities for communication across committees? We’re offering these reflections just in case you find them useful to think about. But either way, our conversations reminded us of the importance of all that you are doing to maintain the strength of the College. Thank you for all your hard work!
