ENVS Professional Development Award Program
Thanks to the generosity of our alumni and friends, we are able to grant competitive awards to ENVS students
who engage in experiences to develop skills, provide professional development experiences, and participate in
research projects to help further their post-college careers. Students may apply for up to $500 per project.
Awards are reimbursable upon submission of final report. Funds can be used for:

transportation or registration fees to attend skill-building or training workshops,
transportation to participate in study abroad programs or cultural immersion projects
to support living expenses to allow students to take unpaid internships, or
supplies and equipment for research projects.
Applications require all of the following information:

you must be a currently enrolled ENVS major or minor (Note: if you graduate in May of 2016 you are
not eligible for summer funding)
your name, and expected year of graduation, major/minor, GPA
a detailed budget of all associated expenses
identification of a faculty or staff sponsor
a timeline for the work
a 250-500 word essay that includes:
a. a description of your project
b. a discussion on how your experience will develop skills or provide experiences to benefit your
post-college career; and
c. an outreach plan to formally communicate your experience to the Ithaca College
community. (For example, this could be an article for the Ithacan or FUSE, a spot on Your
Impact radio show on WICB, and/or a presentation at the Whalen Symposium or Campus
Sustainability Day.)
Documentation of logistics (i.e. confirmation from your research or internship supervisor or information
about the workshop or supplies).
Only fully completed applications will be considered. Awards will be judged based on the following criteria:


Fully completed and clear application
Well-written essay that demonstrates the following:
o What you plan to do, when and where you will do it
o The degree to which the project will enhance your career development
o The feasibility of the project-including a budget that includes all projected costs and how the
award will be used.
Once granted, awards are reimbursable, contingent upon submission of a final report that includes your
completed project description or outreach product, as well as an itemized breakdown of the expenses to be
reimbursed (up to $500).
Application deadline is March 1 at 5 pm. Please leave hard copies of your application in the box in Cheryl
Gunther’s office (CNS 257A). The Spring 2016 Competition is for projects during the Spring 2016 semester or
summer 2016 projects.
