2. Ithaca Seminar Proposal
Ithaca Seminars are interdisciplinary liberal arts courses that have an emphasis on academic
and social transition to college. Below are the Fall 2014 ICSM Student Learning Outcomes:

Students will develop and evaluate ideas and arguments.
Students will identify and articulate assumptions that underlie an idea, argument, or creative
work. *
Students will reflect on quality peer-to-peer interaction
Students will create their ICC e-portfolio and include at least one artifact.
Students will use the resources and services on campus to achieve academic, personal, and
career goals.
New ICSM course proposals: In the space below, please describe how your course will meet the
Student Learning Outcomes of the ICSM program stated above. Do not forget about the last SLO,
which captures the transition to college component. Provide examples of topics and/or activities
that will address each of these outcomes. Please bear in mind that all students will be required to
upload corresponding artifacts for SLO #1 and #2 on Task Stream.

An approach to college learning that empowers individuals and prepares them to deal with
complexity, diversity, and change. This approach emphasizes broad knowledge of the wider world
(e.g., science, culture, and society) as well as in-depth achievement in a specific field of interest. It
helps students develop a sense of social responsibility; strong intellectual and practical skills that
span all major fields of study, such as communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills; and
the demonstrated ability to apply knowledge and skills in real-world settings.

The second SLO is still awaiting final approval from Full APC. The SLO revision has been
approved by CCR and APC-Curriculum. The ICSM Steering Committee expects it to be formally
approved very soon.
