Legislative Act No. 009
WHEREAS, Student Government seeks to establish guidelines for the pre-election information
and nomination meeting; now therefore be it,
RESOLVED, That the meeting will take place three weeks before the election date to provide
sufficient time to campaign prior to the election; and be it further,
RESOLVED, That the notification for the meeting will take place two weeks prior to the meeting
through media outlets, published in any of the University’s publications or other publications that
circulate the university, and via email notification to ensure that all students have ample
opportunity to prepare their schedules in order to attend such meeting; and be it further,
RESOLVED, That there will be only one official meeting for those interested in applying for a
Board or Representative position. In the case that unpredictable circumstances emerge, it is
solely up to the Electoral Commission to excuse the potential candidate and provide him/her
with the ability to continue the application for any such position; and be it further,
RESOLVED, That such a meeting be regarded as highly important for candidates to demonstrate
their commitment to the Student Government obligation prior to the campaigning and election
week; and be it further,
RESOLVED, That the Electoral Commission will be responsible for all provisions outlined above,
and that any amendments to this act can only be developed by those without key interest in reelection and then approved by Student Government’s advisor to ensure Constitutional legality;
and be it further,
RESOLVED, That once this Act is approved it be included in a constitutional amendment under
Article 7 of the Student Government Constitution. Once the Student Body has approved this
revision of the Constitution may this act fully be in effect.
