Act 009 Proposed Constitutional Amendment: CONCERNING PRE-ELECTION NOTIFICATION AND GUIDELINES Short Title: 2013 Pre-Election Guidelines Primary Sponsors: President Liridona Malota Secondary Sponsor: Secretary Lucrezia Lo Schiavo Signatory: Version: Revised Senate Session: Senate Session XXV First Reading: APRIL 17TH, 2012 Second Reading: April 24th, 2012 Third Reading: September 6th, 2012 Legislative Act No. 009 WHEREAS, Student Government seeks to establish guidelines for the pre-election information and nomination meeting; now therefore be it, RESOLVED, That the meeting will take place three weeks before the election date to provide sufficient time to campaign prior to the election; and be it further, RESOLVED, That the notification for the meeting will take place two weeks prior to the meeting through media outlets, published in any of the University’s publications or other publications that circulate the university, and via email notification to ensure that all students have ample opportunity to prepare their schedules in order to attend such meeting; and be it further, RESOLVED, That there will be only one official meeting for those interested in applying for a Board or Representative position. In the case that unpredictable circumstances emerge, it is solely up to the Electoral Commission to excuse the potential candidate and provide him/her with the ability to continue the application for any such position; and be it further, RESOLVED, That such a meeting be regarded as highly important for candidates to demonstrate their commitment to the Student Government obligation prior to the campaigning and election week; and be it further, RESOLVED, That the Electoral Commission will be responsible for all provisions outlined above, and that any amendments to this act can only be developed by those without key interest in reelection and then approved by Student Government’s advisor to ensure Constitutional legality; and be it further, RESOLVED, That once this Act is approved it be included in a constitutional amendment under Article 7 of the Student Government Constitution. Once the Student Body has approved this revision of the Constitution may this act fully be in effect.
