Alternative Text Policy
The Office of Disability Services (ODS) at Marquette University provides required textbooks in an
alternative format to students whose disability adversely affects their ability to access standard print
material. This accommodation is approved after thorough review of the student’s documentation, and a
determination by an ODS representative that the information provided is sufficient and verifies eligibility
to receive alternative text as an accommodation. Eligibility for this accommodation is determined on an
individual basis. Students must be able to verify a substantial print or physical disability with supporting
documentation from a licensed professional, warranting alternative text access. Typically, a six to eight
week notice is required to obtain and create alternative text material from when the request was made, and
proof of purchase is required before the books can be converted. Requests made after the start of the
semester may be processed on a first-come-first-served basis.
