VOLUNTEER ROLE DESCRIPTION
4-H Legislative Ambassador Coordinator
Purpose:
To provide leadership and direction to the Unit 4-H Legislative
Ambassador Program.
To achieve an increased awareness among local and state legislators of
accomplishments and outreach that occurs locally because of youth
involvement in 4-H programming.
Success Criteria:
The development of a plan with objectives and a schedule for the
Ambassador Program for the year.
Training conducted for Ambassadors each year.
Planned contact with local and state legislators.
Regular and timely communication will be maintained between the
Ambassador Coordinator, Unit Office and Ambassadors.
Responsibilities:
Planning:
• Meet jointly with Unit Extension Youth Development Staff to identify
• objectives for the year.
• Solicit input from existing Ambassadors to discuss program needs and
plan activities for the year – including a risk management analysis of
planned activities.
• Contact 4-H clubs to request input related to club activities that would
be useful to report to local and state legislators.
• Prepare a budget for Ambassador Program in cooperation with Unit
Extension Youth Development Staff
• Submit plan and budget to 4-H program committee for review prior to
beginning of year.
Training:
• Identify content and prepare materials for training sessions.
• Secure location, date and time for training sessions.
• Recruit appropriate “trainers” to provide Ambassadors with skills
(Public Speaking, Addressing local and state dignataries, etc.) needed
to successfully complete their task.
• Assist Ambassadors as they develop individual plans for the year.
Projects:
• Work with Ambassadors to prepare News/Information Packets for
local and state legislators.
• Work with Ambassadors to prepare presentations for local and state
legislators.
• Help Ambassadors identify local 4-H members from all legislative
districts to share learning experiences.
Communications:
• Prepare publicity to recruit and select new Ambassadors
• Prepare training schedule for the year and meet on a regular basis
• Prepare publicity for media outlets and 4-H newsletter during the year
• Prepare correspondence to Ambassadors and volunteers during the
year
• Keep file of all correspondence and materials for year
• Prepare written report at end of year

6-8 hours per month
