University of Illinois Extension Kendall County Unit Council Minutes November 11, 2008 Council Members Present: Christine Rott Craig Weber Dr. Jeff Wayda Brian Watkins Belinda Hill Janice McCann Pat VanRiper Louise Cernekee Dick Whitfield Shawna Watkins Aaron Morris Connie Emery Diana Hester Wayne Mundsinger Council Members Absent: Ted Mathewson Cheryl Johnson Staff Present: Sandra Davis Anne Lietz Linda Fitzgerald Call to Order: The meeting was called to order by Chairman Wayne Mundsinger at 7:00 p.m. Secretary Minutes: The minutes were distributed and approved as submitted. Motion to accept: Jeff Wayda Second: Belinda Hill Passed: Unanimous Financial Reports: Reports were reviewed with the following notations: No income was received in September 08 however 20% of state matching was released in October and is expected soon. All other expenses were inline with budget Kendall County Board funding is expected to be received in December Printing line for October 08 is higher than typical due to the printing of 4-H brochures Motion to accept: Jeff Wayda Second: Brian Watkins Passed: Unanimous Staff Reports: Reports were presented as written. Sandra Davis is also serving as the Kane County Interim County Director through January per Dr. Oliver. Other Reports: Expansion and Review Committee – (Pat VanRiper) - There is a freeze on replacement of positions unless there is a guaranteed two year salary to hire. - 4-H is looking to help in various underserved community members. - The committee is looking for a Spanish speaking leader to work with Spanish speaking children in an afterschool program. Fair Board- (Aaron Morris and Wayne Mundsinger) - Preparations are being made for the 2009 Kendall County Fair - An Appreciation Dinner was held in September - General maintenance is taking place - The board is also looking into concerns about the echo in the building. A drop ceiling purchase has been authorized to reduce noise/echo - New lighting will be added to the back of the bleacher area - Four inch trees are being planted Master Gardeners (Wayne Mundsinger) – - 210 people attended the four season programs - 350 calls were answered - A garden was planted that produced 350 lbs. of produce for the local food pantry - Options for increasing the visibility of Master Gardener Program and services by being present at the Yorkville and Oswego Farmer’s Market were discussed. - Service projects included weeding and planting around the flag pole at Lyon’s Farm and refiguring and rejuvenating the gardens at the Oswego House - 5 new applicants will take the twelve week training for becoming a Master Gardener and Wayne discussed how to become a Master Gardner. Regional Advisory Committee (Wayne Mundsinger) - McHenry County currently has no director and there is discussion that Kane and Dupage counties may combine in June of 09. - A new position is open for a Grant Writer at the regional level - A Youth educator position is also open - Spanish classes will be offered for staff - Smart House Exhibit at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago has been extended through the year 2009 Old Business: Funders Appreciation Luncheon – January 20, 2009 - Co-Chairmen Ted Mathewson and Dick Whitfield - Menu will be Lasagna (provided by Belinda H.) and Chicken Soup (provided by Wayne M.)
