Teacher Delivery
Activity #5: How can I “Make Half My Grains Whole?”
Either project the attached menu in front of the class or give copies to table groups.
1. Ask students to identify (circle) Grains Group foods.
Count how many ounces of Grains Group foods are on the menu. Most
Fifth-Graders need 6 ounces of Grains Group foods each day. Are there 6
ounces on this menu?
2. Ask students to identify how many are “Whole Grain” foods.
It is recommended that half our Grains Group foods are made from Whole
Grains.
Have students make suggestions of how to “Make Half the Grains Whole”
on this menu.
Activity #6: Include Grains Group foods in your snacks.
1. Have students suggest foods from the Grains Group that would make a
healthy snack.
2. What other foods would be good with these Grains Group foods? What food
groups are represented by the snack ideas?
