Laramie, WY 82070 Pharrin2@uwyo.edu • http://www.uwyo.edu/reslife-dining/wcc/ POSITION DESCRIPTION: CREW MEMBERS AmeriCorps WCC Crew Members will work in teams of six members with two crew leaders. Members will work cooperatively with and take direction from crew leaders and the Program Staff. Crew members will complete six, ten-day conservation projects around the state of Wyoming, living and working outdoors; crew members will also complete one week of orientation at the before the start of the first project. Members’ responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, camping, cooking, work-related task completion, participating in environmental education, and group learning programs and various camp chores. Work projects are located throughout the state of Wyoming, working with state and federal land management agencies. Projects will include: trail maintenance and construction, habitat restoration, development reclamation, construction, scientific survey, and various agricultural projects. Crew members will be required to fulfill a total hourly commitment over the course of the term of service (May-August). Crew members will be enrolled in a one upper-division credit WCC class through the University of Wyoming. Completion of this course and fulfillment of hourly commitments through training, projects, and some travel are required in order to be eligible to receive the AmeriCorps Education Award. Crew members will complete a variety of trainings and orientations for the WCC program and its AmeriCorps affiliation. Trainings include a required 16-hour Wilderness First Aid course at no cost to the participant. This is a drug and alcohol free position with zero tolerance. These members will serve a quarter-time AmeriCorps commitment of 450 hours. All of those hours will be completed between May and August of 2015. Hours are to be fulfilled at various service sites due to the nature of the WCC program and work. They will receive a reasonable living stipend of $3,250 over the course of their service, and will be eligible upon completion of their term of service for an AmeriCorps half-time member education award of $1,468. WCC MISSION AND VISION STATEMENTS Leadership in public service. The WCC connects young adults to a diverse array of hands-on natural resource and environmental management experiences, and promotes leadership, through the completion of service projects that benefit lands in Wyoming. WCC PROGRAM SUMMARY The Wyoming Conservation Corps provides Wyoming’s young adults important personal and technical skills and experience in natural resource and environmental career fields, through projects focusing on improving Wyoming’s public lands. Participants will gain first-hand experience dealing with Wyoming’s complex landscape, providing them with real-world skills and a deeper appreciation for the state’s environmental challenges and riches. Furthermore, the WCC program will provide financial support for higher education, at Wyoming’s community colleges or the University of Wyoming.
