The purpose of this course is to learn about the relationships and processes taking place inside of us and all around us. In doing so, you will be more prepared to take the New York State Regents Test in Living Environment next year as well as satisfy all requirements needed to take the test. COURSE REQUIREMENTS AND POLICIES 1. Notebook: a. You must purchase a Red 3 Ring binder with loose leaf. b. Dividers with 3 sections i. Do Now/Notes ii. Homework iii. Worksheets c. A 3-holed pocket folder put in the back of the binder for Tests/Quizzes/Labs You must bring your binder, a pen, and pencil to class EVERY DAY, NO EXCEPTIONS!! 2. Homework: a. Homework is given 4 nights a week. It will usually be given Monday-Thursday, but sometimes there will be homework on Friday. b. Homework will be on the board at the beginning of class and on Mr. Botka’s Sewanhaka website c. Homework is to be completed and brought to class the following day. If you are not sure of an answer, look in your textbook or online. Try to answer it to the best of your ability. d. Homework will only be accepted one day late for ½ credit. It is the student’s responsibility to show me the completed homework. I will not hunt you down for missing homework. Late homework will not be accepted more than one day after it was due e. Students who are absent the night a homework is assigned can check the website or ask Mr. Botka the following day and will be given an extra day to complete the homework 3. Lab Activities: a. When performing a lab in class, the lab will typically be due the day after it was completed in class. Labs that are late will receive -10 points for every day that they are late. 4. Attendance: a. Your success in this course relies on you being in class every day. You are responsible for all work missed and notes taken due to an absence. b. Please hand in all late work to me directly. c. If you are absent for a Test/Quiz, you will take the missed exam on the day that you return. d. REMEMBER… Attendance is taken very seriously. Being late to class 3 times is equivalent to 1 cut. BE ON TIME! (Seated and ready to learn by the time the bell rings). f. Cutting class will result in detentions, phone calls home, and cut cards being sent to administration. 5. Tests/Quizzes a. Tests are given for each topic that we will learn about. They will include multiple choice questions, short answer questions, essays, graphing, reading comprehension, and science math problems. Tests are 60% of your grade b. Quizzes will include multiple choice questions, short answer questions, essays, graphing, reading comprehension and science math problems. Your notebook or homework may be collected and graded as a quiz. EXTRA HELP: I am always willing to give extra help to students who seek it. Please come to the Special Education Office on the second floor any day right after 9th period or during school Periods 1,2, or 6. If you want to meet before school, please let me know in advance so that I can be there. REPORT CARD FORMULA: Tests: 60% Labs/Quizzes: 20% Homework: 15% Class Participation: 5% Please review this material with your parent/guardian, sign, cut off at the dotted line, and return to me the following day in class.
