Summary:
(No prerequisite.) This is an introductory survey of the needs for and roles of
computer information systems within organizations. Emphasis is on information
technology requirements for organizations, history, hardware, programming, systems
development, personal computers, Internet, and networks. Students work with
personal computers using application software for word processing, spreadsheets,
and databases. Programs are written and run in a high level language. (CSU/UC)

TBA: REQUIREMENTS
The student is responsible for one hour a week lab work as assigned in class or
posted on the web! I will be available for an assigned time of one hour in a college
computer lab to guide you through the assignment!
Expected Outcomes:
Upon completion of the course,
~ Students will be able make informed decisions concerning the use of hardware,
software and procedures to meet the
information technology needs of organizations
~ Students will be able to use current application software to solve simple
business problems in communications, whatif analysis and, data organization and reporting
~ Students will be able to solve simple business problems by coding elementary
programs in a high level procedural

Critical Thinking:
Students will be able to:
~ evaluate and choose the most appropriate information technology for a specific
organization's needs
~ differentiate between different types of application software for PC's and given
a problem to solve, select the
correct type of software required
Lab Content: ~ Tutorial exercises in application software, spreadsheets, database, power point, movie-
maker,, and others – Research selected topics
~ Tutorial exercises in logo html and other high level programming language

Assignments: Weekly reading and activity oriented assignments are made from the Course textbook
as well as additional in class assignments. A Semester Project. Additionally, you are also responsible
for one hour per week of lab based work during my scheduled TBA hours as announced in class.
Grading:
There are the total points available in this class: Final Exam (70),), Microsoft Office
assignments (30), Programming assignments (05), Project (95)
Additional points can be gained through many Extra Credit options. These will be presented in
class throughout the semester.
This course has an option of a Letter Grade or Pass (P)/ No Pass (NP). (This option is timesensitive)
