Agenda and Minutes a. Agenda items were discussed and approved b. The minutes from the September 23 meeting were amended and approved. Deb M will post them in the Public Folders. Action: Bonnie B to add Jim L to her distribution list c. The feedback from the September 23 College Council meeting were amended and approved. Deb M will post them in the Public Folders. II. Action Items a. Completed Items i. Deb will send out notes of the meeting by EOB September 28 so that Committee members may discuss them at the September 30 meeting. ii. Deb will inform HR that a draft of the Tech Plan is available on the Intranet. b. Incomplete/Pending i. Derek will create a chart to demonstrate the interconnectedness of the Tech Plan recommendation ii. In progress: Derek, Mike, and Steve and will meet to draft a memo to the IT Director; share it with the Committee for review. Ingrid then will send the memo from the entire Committee. c. This includes… confidentiality of student data, including phasing out social seucirty numbers as student IDs. Make reference to: Attachment B, College of Marin System Informatin Security Plan. Social Security numbers must be changed per state mandate and is part of the implemenation phase. b. Mission statement of Technology p. 5 Even though the intent is to “direct planning,”replace the word with “guide” so mission statement is more clear and states: The mission of the College of Marin Technology Committee is to guide, coordinate, and recommend technology planning that supports and enhances student success and institutional effectiveness. Concepts of technology literacy and information literacy should be clarified, separating the two and referring solely to the application of technology to the issues. Goal I Recommendation C p8 This is specific to implementation, but raises issues with some examples currently listed. Current information needs to reflect more generic, strategic needs. Last sentence in paragraph and first two bullet items to be revised: Examples of training needs include: Orientation for new employees Desktop and office productivity tools Goal IV Recommendation B p. 16 The Technology Committee is presenting the recommendation for the College to address since we are not charged with defining programs or assessing needs of the College. After mission statement insert: The Technology Committee looks forward to participation in the College’s shared governance. As with all shared governance committees, its main concern will be to support student learning/ The guidance, advice, and recommendations from the Technology Committee, however, will be limited to issues of information technology per se, and not to pedagogical methods. g. Appearance of the priorities of the plan’s current focus on IT infrastructure and less of a focus on educational and academic technology needs and support. h. The roll of the committee should not include recommendations as to pedagogical components of instruction, but rather the technological needs to support educational goals. Remove the word “external” when consultant is recommended. Goal 1, Recommendation A, p7 Goal II, Recommendation A, p. 9 Goal III, Recommendation I, p.15 i. Concern raised about the excessive amount of outsourcing proposed to develop future solutions including training fees for new administrative software. Revise introduction to be more inclusive of outsourcing concerns. At the end of the introduction, insert: Recommendations in this plan propose the use of additional staff resources, referencing the use of consultants when appropriate. In these instances the Technology Committee is resolute in identifying the most qualified, knowledgeable individual(s) with proven expertise in accomplishing a certain task. The Committee will have oversight of developing a statement of purpose, criteria, and methods of evaluation for selecting a consultant. The search will be open internally and externally for bid/selection.
