Report from Treasurer Teresa Whitman presented the Treasurer’s report. The budget for next year was presented and approved with no modifications. The new budget year starts on Sept. 1. Reports from Committee Scholarship Committee Teresa Whitman reported that the committee met last night and awarded $6,200 in Jama Harms scholarships. She will send out notifications by August 17, 2012. The Jama Harms Scholarship fund made $3,372.15 last year and efforts are being made to increase income. Sale Committee Erin Douglas requested volunteers to help with the buyer thank you note collection tables. The hours will be 3:30 to 6:00 on Sunday evening. Leaders, Junior Leaders and parents would be welcome. Fairgrounds Jamie reported that there will be fire crews stationed at the fairgrounds until August 24 but clubs are still able to do community service there. We will also be doing a 4H member grounds clean up Sunday morning of fair at 8:30. The extension office will supply gloves and bags. 4H Supporter Appreciation Breakfast The breakfast will be located at the South Valley Bank parking lot this year. Big Sage Beef will be the host club. The Search and Rescue kitchen will be there to prepare the food. Two members of each club are requested to help serve the breakfast. North Lake Appreciation Dinner North Lake Appreciation Dinner is scheduled for August 25th, 6:30 pm, at the school in North Lake. The dinner is in conjunction with the Friends of North Lake FFA. Ribbon Committee Hallie reported that the banners for the Grand Champion/Reserve Grand Champion winners have been ordered. Sponsors for the banners are needed with the cost to sponsor a banner being $10. The banners cost $20 to purchase. These banners will be hung above the pens of the Grand/Reserve Champion winners of market and showmanship classes for beef, sheep, swine, goats, poultry and rabbits. In addition, this year each class champion/reserve champion will get the champion/reserve ribbon. Old Business Horse Show Laurie reported that the Horse Show was held the first weekend in August and was very successful. Hannah Peterson, Amanda Arcularius, and Halie Pennington qualified for State Fair. New Business Record Books Jamie explained the record book score card for this year. There will be no score number given. Instead, record books will just be given a ribbon of appropriate color. Score cards will be folded over and within the record books, not shared with the public as in the past. Recognition Ceremony Anna Fledderjohann is organizing the ceremony as a junior leader project. County medal applications are due, and Teresa has ordered the county and junior leader medals. Stan Walters Memorial Friends of 4-H Award Nominations were accepted. Charlie Tracy was added to the list of individuals. Don Liddycoat and Ag and Auto were nominated as businesses. Stall Assignments Stall assignments will be posted by Tuesday of Fair week, both online and in the barns. Food Booth The schedule for the food booth was in the newsletter. The contractor is asking for two adults (one being a leader) and four kids. Parade Float Anna Fledderjohann and other junior leaders are designing and building the float this year. It will be on a big rig trailer, and John Marcus will pull it in the parade. The float will be decorated with signs recognizing static exhibits at the fair. Anna presented a supplies bill for $155.42, and the members approved $160. Fair Volunteers An iPad with a ShowWorks app will be used at the hog ring. There will be two new people, and they would like at least two others to be present to learn the new system. They also request someone to take down the exhibit building at 3:00 p.m. on Monday. Erin Douglas requested a couple more helpers in the sale barn to assist the kids with thank you notes. Premium Payouts Premium money will be dispensed from 12:00-3:00 p.m. on both Sunday and Monday. This is a change from previous years. Grand Champion Awards Jamie stated that we need two more $20 sponsors for grand champion sweatshirts. Colors will be burnt orange and white, and navy blue and white. If 4-H members receive more than two sweatshirts, they can receive a $20 Bender’s gift certificate. 2012-13 Leaders 4-H leaders are needed for the Lego and Arts & Crafts projects. Looking ahead to the 2012-13 4-H Year Starting summer of 2013, Laurie will be full-time. Bry may retire next year, and Laurie will train the new office coordinator, then move into the Livestock/Ag in the Classroom and be more proactive in assisting leaders. Announcements/Programs At the state level in the shooting sports project, eight members qualified and competed. EJ Albertson qualified as an alternate for the Oregon state team and may go to nationals. Amanda Arcularius and Anna Fledderjohann gave a presentation about their participation at Summer Conference. The next meeting will be January 16, 2013 at the Paisley Meeting Hall. We will have officer elections.
