NORTHERN ARAPAHO ENDOWMENT FUND The Northern Arapaho Endowment Fund at the University of Wyoming has been established to help tribal members gain formal educational skills directly beneficial to the Northern Arapaho people. The spirit of the award assumes that the recipients have, as a part of their ultimate goals, some direct participation, appropriate to their educational background, in activities that will further the common good of their fellow Northern Arapaho tribal members. The following policies govern the awarding of scholarships by the Northern Arapaho Endowment Fund Committee for the 2016 Summer Session and the 2016-17 Academic Year: FULL-TIME STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP CONDITIONS & APPLICATION 1. An applicant must be an enrolled member of the Northern Arapaho tribe, as verified by the Northern Arapaho Office of Vital Statistics. 2. An applicant must be a UW an undergraduate senior or junior seeking a first bachelor’s degree, a UW degree-seeking graduate student, or a short-term student seeking to maintain certification for a currently held position. 3. An applicant must have been accepted for admission by an academic department or program of the University of Wyoming (in the case of a graduate student), or have been accepted for enrollment by the University (in the case of an undergraduate student). 4. An applicant must enroll in UW course work, which may be offered on the Laramie campus, at the UW/CC Center, or at any location, by in-person instructors, by teleconferencing, or by Internet. An applicant must carry a full-time UW course load (12 UW credit hours for undergraduate, pharmacy, and law students; nine UW graduate credit hours for graduate students). 5. Applications must be complete at the time of Committee consideration. (see check list) 6. To retain the scholarship, a recipient must maintain steady progress toward the degree/certification, and each semester (a) maintain at least the minimum grade point average required by the University to be in good academic standing, and (b) successfully complete a fulltime course load, as described in paragraph 4. If a recipient has some academic difficulty, the Committee, at its discretion, may permit the recipient to receive the scholarship for one probationary semester, to enable the student to regain good academic standing. 7. Each scholarship is designed to cover the cost of attendance for the recipient. It should cover tuition and mandatory fees, housing and food, books and materials, basic transportation, and reasonable personal expenses. Upon proper documentation, a dependent allowance of $100 per legal dependent (other than a spouse) per month, for up to four dependents under age 18 living with the student may be awarded also. No Northern Arapaho Endowment award in combination with any other awards may exceed the Cost of Attendance for the covered term(s), as defined by the UW Office of Student Financial Aid. NORTHERN ARAPAHO ENDOWMENT FUND Full-time Student Conditions & Application Page 2 8. Payment of the scholarship will be made in a lump sum at the beginning of each University term, upon the recipient's enrollment. This gives the recipient an opportunity to use the funding as necessary, but also will require the recipient to budget his/her funds to last throughout the term. The fall payment and dependent allowance are expected to cover five months (August, September, October, November, and December). The spring payment and dependent allowance are also expected to cover five months (January, February, March, April, and May). Summer term payments are designed to cover two months (June and July). 9. Applicants for Northern Arapaho Endowment support are strongly encouraged to seek other scholarships and grants as well. A Northern Arapaho Endowment scholar should feel free to accept any other scholarship s/he is awarded. The scholar should be aware, however, that when s/he accepts a scholarship or grant from a source other than the Northern Arapaho Endowment Fund, the value of that award will be subtracted from the amount of that individual’s full Northern Arapaho Endowment scholarship. 10. Each applicant is expected to apply for federal financial aid, including a Federal Pell Grant if an undergraduate student. If the applicant receives a Pell Grant, the amount of the Pell Grant will be subtracted from the total Northern Arapaho Endowment award. 11. Because the Northern Arapaho Endowment Scholarship is designed to cover all of a recipient’s college attendance costs, the award amount is based on the UW Cost of Attendance for the recipient’s tuition category, using federal aid guidelines. If a recipient choses to work full-time while enrolling full-time as a Northern Arapaho Endowment scholar, the recipient’s federal Expect Family Contribution (EFC) will be subtracted from the amount of his/her award. 12. The Committee will meet annually in the spring to determine the awards for the coming summer and academic year. An application will not be carried forward beyond the meeting for which it was submitted. An applicant who is unsuccessful in one term or who must decline the award must submit a new application to be considered for a future term. 13. In order to give opportunities to additional applicants, the Committee may decide to limit applicants and current recipients to terms of support covering no more than 150% of the course work required for the degree being sought.
