GROUP ASSIGNMENT

Over the next three months your team will explore this career path and prepare a 10-minute
presentation on your assigned career for the final workshop session, December 3rd.
Please exchange emails, phone numbers and other contact information with your team so that
you can stay in contact with each during these next three months.
During your 10-minute presentation your team should be prepared to address and incorporate
the following information in your presentation:
 Name of selected career selected pathway
 Education requirements for this career path
 Schools in Oregon and the American West that provide training and/or degree programs
in this chosen field
 Average total cost to get a degree or certification in this chosen field
 Competiveness to get into the education programs of your assigned career (i.e. only 1 in
every 10 applicants is accepted)
 Suggested tips for getting into training and/or degree programs of your selected career
 Average starting salary of your selected career
 Average top end salary of your selected career
 Competitiveness of getting a job in your selected career
 Personal Job satisfaction of professionals in your career
 Potential job growth
 Level of job flexibility
 Typical work environment
 Typical work day assignment
 What should high school youth being doing now to prepare for this career pathway
today
RESOURCES: Throughout these 3 months we will introduce you to career professionals in your
chosen career pathway and the opportunity to shadow these professionals at their work. We
will also share with you online resources for researching information for your assignment.
Your team may choose to give your presentation in any number of ways:
 Flipcharts and posters
 Power point presentations
 Movies/videos
 Shared oral presentation
The quality of your presentation is important as the message you will communicate. The 4-H
team will provide you with resources to help you prepare an effective presentation (an
important tool for building your communication skills when interviewing for jobs, scholarships
and college programs).
