The Purpose of the Role:
The purpose of the role is to provide support to the day-to-day running of the University
buildings including cleaning standards, health and safety, general maintenance whilst adhering
to the University’s policies and procedures.

Management of an allocated University building(s) including
opening/locking the building, alarming, setting up rooms for teaching
purposes and accepting and distributing mail including the recording of
mail received and delivered. Supervising cleaning staff where
applicable.
Providing in-house security, including handling lost property which
may involve handling cash, dealing with customers as appropriate to
return property and keeping accurate records.

Daily building inspections of all rooms, including those centrally
bookable to identify faults, complete inspections sheets and report
findings to the appropriate point via email, telephone or manually in
memo format.
To adhere to health and safety and other relevant legislative
requirements, University and relevant external, policies, procedures,
standards and codes of practice.

To undertake any other duties appropriate to the role and level as and
when required.

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications and Experience:
Essential

Qualifications/
 Numerate and literate
 NVQ in customer care, or

Scope of the Role:
The Building Attendant plays a crucial role supporting the needs of the users, students and
visitors of all academic and administrative buildings belonging to the University of Nottingham.
This role reports to the Head Porters in Domestic Services.
