It also assists in the development of our virtual learning environment using the latest technologies to offer our students the most effective learning support. The role guides, advises, and supports in the adoption of emerging web technologies within the structure of the School, both in teaching activities and in the day-to-day running of the School. Main Responsibilities: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Responsibility for School wide strategic decision making with regard to the adoption of new technologies and e-learning. Recommendations of appropriate tools/technologies for pedagogic requirements and appropriate support and/or training. Represent e-learning strategies on School Teaching Committee. Sole responsibility for the design and creation of e-learning materials where these are not to contain interactive elements, animations and video using Flash, Actionscript, XML, graphics files and various video formats as appropriate. Sole responsibility for steering and dissemination of e-learning activities on School’s Committee including working with curriculum developers to identify and adopt relevant areas of current curriculum into e-learning environment. Identification of areas of curriculum suited to the future adoption of e-learning upon review. Involvement in funding bids for projects to further develop e-learning within the School and associated research projects, guide and advise in development stages. School Web Co-ordinator; direct liaison with University Web Team on central issues such as CMS monitoring and central events database. Responsibility for web based marketing, publicity and recruitment drive. This includes internal and external liaison with relevant companies, departments and individuals as well as multi media production of relevant materials (Dreamweaver, Flas JAvascript, PHP). Identification and maintenance of external databases such as ECCTIS. Attendance at conferences and seminars as necessary to ensure School is kept informed of technological and pedagogic advances in the emerging field of elearning – both internal and external. Software Licensing Co-ordinator, responsible for purchase and control of all staff, postgraduate and lab software licenses, including school-wide and server. Responsible for creation and maintenance of software audit database. Any other duties appropriate to the grade and role Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience Essential Qualifications/ Education Degree level or equivalent in relevant subject. Skills/Training Good organisational, planning and prioritisation skills. Desirable Excellent interpersonal skills. Experience Excellent oral and written communication skills. Experience in web authoring software Dreamweaver, as well as multi-media design and knowledge of Flash, XML, Actionscript, Javascript, PHP. Some knowledge of Unix is required. Experience with the manipulation of graphics and photographic images. Experience of supervising developments in e-learning and web technologies. Confirmation of overall school strategy within web based resources. 10% 10% Benchmark Role Profile for Web and E-Learning Co-ordinator Version 2.0 Last amended: March 2015 Additional Information This is a pivotal role in the School’s IT strategy with primary responsibility for e-learning strategy, development and implementation. This role also carries primary responsibility as web co-ordinator and software licensing co-ordinator, and therefore demands a mix of technical and excellent interpersonal skills. The role directly addresses the School strategy to encourage greater use of VLEs and the web, via the tools available and emerging technologies. The role explores the technical options and pedagogic requirements for enabling greater use of online resources, develops a specific implementation strategy for the School, and provides essential training and support for individual staff members. The role is key to several joint initiatives. The dissemination of new innovative teaching and learning methods and the development of cutting edge research will rely upon online developments. This role allows these initiatives to be integrated within a common environment consolidating both content and technical delivery methodologies.
