APS Summer Intern (2014): Accounting Summary: APS Accounting Control is seeking a high performing professional (graduate or bachelor level student) who is looking for an opportunity to expand their knowledge and skill sets in a variety of areas within the energy and energy-related industry. This individual will spend up to a semester (or summer) as an intern in the Accounting and Financial Control area to acquaint themselves with Pinnacle West Capital Corporation and its main subsidiary, Arizona Public Service (APS). The position requires excellent oral and written communication skills and the candidate should have an understanding of risk and the ability to design and perform audit procedures. The individual will be expected to assist in a variety of assignments and be a strong team player. This position will be a paid internship and requires minimal travel. As part of this program you will network with other interns and employees, across the company. The intern will be treated as a full-time employee, with two paid holidays, a fun-energetic atmosphere that emphasizes work-life balance. Responsibilities and Essential Duties: Responsibilities in Accounting and Financial Control will include general ledger and financial statement analysis, balance sheet reconciliations, journal entries, and reporting and communicating the results to the appropriate level of Company management. The Intern duties may include the following: Under general supervision, performing balance sheet reconciliations and financial account analysis. Critically assess routine issues and formulate recommendations to properly safeguard Company assets and improve operations. Interact with coworkers and managers to clearly communicate accounting issues and/or concerns. Maintain a positive attitude and an even temperament to promote teamwork and cooperation. Comply with GAAP, GAAS, IIA standards and Company procedures to ensure objectivity, independence and professionalism of audits. Qualifications Successful candidates will be pursuing a bachelor or graduate degree within one of the disciplines related to accounting, auditing, finance, or information systems from an accredited college/university and is enrolled full-time. Must possess good academic aptitude; strong written, verbal communication, and presentation skills; analytical and critical thinking skills, and have the desire to take on significant responsibility. In addition to having a good work ethic, candidates should have the ability to define work programs, collect and document evidence, analyze information and evaluate evidence to reach conclusions. Strong proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint is essential.
