The Purpose of the Role:
To coordinate and develop the aquatics programme within the David Ross Sports Village
swimming pools, offer a range of aquatic activities to internal and external customers;
leading the localised team of swimming instructors; provide first class standards of
instruction and programme delivery; maximising participation and income generation;
delivery of a minimum of 10 hours instruction per week.
Support the delivery of the Vision for Sport to deliver an outstanding student sporting
offer within a sector leading facility, and establish the University as the first choice for
students wishing to combine a top quality education with an outstanding sporting
experience.
Main Responsibilities

Staff Management

To lead and motivate the team of swimming teachers, promoting and
embedding a culture of excellence, directing work programmes and ensuring
efficient and effective service delivery, ensuring effective recruitment, training
and development processes are in place.

To ensure compliance with employment law and University of Nottingham policy
with respect to teacher recruitment, ensuring appropriate contracts are in place
at all times.

To plan, co-ordinate and deliver the swim teacher training programme,
including but not limited to: staff induction, quality systems, policy and
procedure training. Engaging appropriate colleagues to ensure delivery where
appropriate.

To maintain effective records of appropriate swim teacher training,
implementing robust systems to ensure staff skills are acquired, refreshed and
developed in accordance with the departmental training policy, and statutory
compliance with industry regulations is achieved at all times


procedures, ensuring staff are able to demonstrate a high degree of awareness

To ensure levels of sickness and absence, are recorded, addressing issues
arising in accordance with University Policy, liaising with the David Ross Sports
Village Manager where required.

To carry out performance appraisal of staff where required.
Programme delivery and development

To co-ordinate and develop a high quality and diverse aquatics programme
ensuring appropriate teaching methods within a safe and professional
environment, maximising occupancy, and programme growth setting and
achieving income generation and profitability targets

To ensure the UoN Sport Learn to swim Programme is compliant with ASA
guidelines.

Ensure adequate teaching provision at all times, arranging lesson cover where
required

To ensure personal teaching skills remain current via a minimum of 10 hours
planned and regular instruction per week, and providing additional cover for
colleague absences where possible.

Co-coordinate the annual swim school timetable, communicating the plan to
relevant colleagues in advance to ensure timely and effective marketing of the
programme.

To assess, authorise and action the movement of swimmers between classes,
engaging the support of appropriate colleagues where required and ensuring
customers are notified of all moves

To manage the aquatics programme waiting list, communicating with
prospective customers, ensuring regular monitoring of class occupancy and
ensuring efficient and effective transfer onto the UoN Sport Aquatics
Programme

To co-ordinate all enrolments on to the programme via the computerised lesson
management system, in relation to existing and new customers, liaising and
engaging appropriate colleagues where required to ensure prompt and accurate
payment.

Timely, advance communication of cancellations and alterations to colleagues
and customers

Order and maintain stock associated with the aquatics programme, branding,
badges and awards.

Maintain a high degree of visibility throughout the facility, proactively managing
and developing service delivery and the implementation of quality systems,
responding to and resolving customer queries, complaints and enquiries.

To provide agreed regular reports with respect to occupancy levels, income
generation, customer and instructor satisfaction, suggesting Key Performance
Indicators and data collection methods where appropriate.

To ensure the UoN Sport attains appropriate quality assurance from identified
accrediting bodies, for example the ASA.

To regularly review existing provision, making recommendations for programme

To develop and deliver a comprehensive Aquatics Plan, delivering key
programme aims and outcomes, partner engagement and growth forecasts for
the coming three years.
Marketing and promotion

Identify opportunities for marketing to internal and external customers,
supporting the creation of database information to facilitate regular marketing
campaigns

Coordinate the distribution of information to existing and prospective
customers, via email updates, newsletters, leaflets and brochures.

Maintain beneficial relationships with the local swimming community,
educational establishments and sporting clubs with a view to increasing
awareness and interest.
Health and Safety and Safeguarding


To ensure appropriate and compliant safeguarding measures and processes are
in place at all times.

To report any concerns regarding the safeguarding of children and vulnerable
adults following procedures set out in the safeguarding and child protection
policy.

Undertake regular checks of all poolside equipment required for the delivery of
the Aquatics programme to ensure it remains in a good state of repair and is fit
for purpose at all times; recommending replacements, additions and updates
where necessary.
Departmental Support

To exhibit a flexible approach to work, providing a presence within the sports
facilities outside of normal office hours and in accordance with programme
needs when required.

To act as Duty Manager for the David Ross Sports Village when required, for
example, in cases of unplanned absence, large events or annual leave.

Additional Information
Hours of work are 36¼ per week. Candidates will need to flexible in their approach to their working
hours noting that the operational hours are between 5.30am and 11 pm seven days a week. Post
holders may be occasionally asked to work outside of normal working hours, for some events and
essential building maintenance.
