Research Associate/fellow Two-phase CFD Modelling and Simulations

Salary:
£25,769 - £37,768 per annum, depending on skills and
experience (minimum £28,982 with relevant PhD). Salary progression
beyond this scale is subject to performance

Contract Status:
Fixed-term contract for 9 months after start date
Hours of Work:
36.25 hours per week, full time
Location:
Gas Turbine and Transmissions Research Centre (G2TRC) Energy
Technologies Building, Faculty of Engineering, Innovation Park,
Triumph Road, Nottingham NG7 2 TU.
Reporting to:
G2TRC Director & Transmissions UTC Deputy Director. (Prof. Herve
Morvan).
The Purpose of the Role:
To propose a method to design and built open-cell foam structures, with emphasis on minimizing
their overall pressure drop whilst maintaining their oil capture effectiveness.

To perform foam geometry generation and tessellation
Using standard grid-based CFD in order to assess the pressure drop and oil
droplet capture effectiveness of the generated foam structures
Generate foam structures that can be manufactured by 3-D printing, and later
have its pressure drop experimentally measured
To support the writing of documentation, reports and papers as appropriate.

 A PhD, or to expect to soon have
a PhD in a subject that makes
extensive use of CFD as an
integral part of that study
 Use of ANSYS Fluent or similar
 Generation and use of userdefined functions extensions to
standard CFD software.
 Academic or relevant industrial
experience
 Experience of porous medium
simulation with high fidelity CFD
 Experience of porous medium
geometry generation
 Ability to work to deadlines and
to prioritise tasks
 Excellent communication and
presentation skills
 Ability to work in a team
 Ability to interact with industrial
professionals
 Ability to work independently, to
take initiatives and to lead
Desirable
 Demonstrable experience with
meshing software such as ICEM
CFD and Fluent Meshing
 Single and multi-phase flow
modelling ideally in porous media
 Experience related to sphere
packing algorithms or with discrete
element method (DEM)
 Experience of writing papers,
documentation and reports
