International Family Link International Family Link was formed several years ago to introduce mature international students to local people who are willing to offer hospitality in their own homes. The scheme has now grown to include academic visitors or sponsored researchers who are here for longer than six months. Many students, academic visitors and sponsored researchers complete their course of study or research with limited experience of British life and culture outside the University. Getting to know local people, going into real homes can be an important part of your experience here. Who can apply? The scheme is intended for new, mature, students studying here at The University of Nottingham. Students who are aged 25 or over and whose studies will last for nine months or longer are eligible to apply. You can apply as a single student or as a student with a spouse or children, the scheme is flexible. Academic visitors or sponsored researchers who are here for longer than six months are also eligible to apply. Who are the hosts? We have a whole variety of people who act as hosts and are kind enough to invite you into their homes out of friendship. Hosts can be single people with large friendship groups, young couples and families. While most of our hosts are alumni, members or retired members of University staff, others are people from different professions - some have links with local organisations and community groups. They do not have an academic role on the scheme and are not paid. What kind of hospitality will be offered? A short visit to a local family home, perhaps Sunday lunch or a family meal one evening, perhaps a walk in the local area followed by tea and biscuits. You may be invited once a term or more often. You will probably first meet your host at a special introductory meeting we hope to have on campus in November 2015 (date to be confirmed). You will be given more information about this in due course. How can I apply?
