Support for your studies
The University of Nottingham provides a range of services to support your studies. Please
explore these pages to find out more about how we can help you.
The University of Nottingham is committed to equality of opportunity for all its students; it is
also mindful of its requirement to comply with legislation affecting access to Higher Education
specifically the Disability Discrimination Act and more recently the Equality Act 2010. The
University will arrange for assessment of the requirements of its disabled students and make
recommendation for suitable equipment and services. Liaison is undertaken with potential
funding sources for the equipment and services required. The University does not discriminate
according to whether a student has Disabled Students Allowance or not.
Academic Support
Academic Support provides general study support for all students, and specialist academic
support for students with dyslexia, dyspraxia and other Specific Learning Difficulties. For further
information please visit the Academic Support pages.
Disability Support
Disability support co-ordinates support and access arrangements for disabled students and those
with long term medical conditions. For further information please visit the Disability Support
pages.
ACCESS
Centre
The ACCESS Centre carries out Needs Assessments for students who have applied for the
Disabled Students’ Allowances (DSA). You do not have to be a University of Nottingham
student to access this service. For further information please visit the ACCESS Centre page.
Accessible Transport- Minibus
Service
The minibus service exists primarily to enable students with permanent or long-term disabilities,
who are unable to use other forms of transport provided by the University (eg hopper bus), to
attend their academic activities. For further information please visit the Accessible Transport
page.
Practical Academic Support
Work
PASW provides students with access to Support Workers. These are trained graduates who work
as note takers, mentors, scribes, transcribers, readers and library browsers for disabled students,
including those with dyslexia or dyspraxia. For further information about the service, or to find
out how to become a Support Worker, please visit the Practical Academic Support Work page.
