Purpose of the job:
Ensure all disabled students have the opportunity to access and fully benefit from their academic and broader student experience through the provision of high quality information, advice and support services to students and the staff working with them.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Manage the delivery and enhancement of a comprehensive and integrated range of information, advice and support services for prospective disabled students, disabled students and the staff working with them.
2. Advise academic departments and professional services regarding reasonable adjustments for disabled students and strategies to achieve disability related legal compliance.
3. Further develop the effectiveness of Disability Access Plans (DAPs) and contribute to the case management of students with complex needs.
4. Contribute to the promotion of inclusive teaching and support practices and the delivery of high quality disability services across the institution.
5. Oversee the arrangements, including quality assurance, contractual agreement and associated rebates for the provision of disabled student support workers including through an external recruitment agency.
6. Maintain an understanding of and contribute to developments in relevant areas of higher education through scholarship and membership of appropriate professional associations and networks.
7. Budget oversight, planning and monitoring of all Disability Funds as they relate to Student Services.

8. Contribute to the overall management of Student Services through active membership of the department management team and leading on agreed cross-departmental responsibilities.
9. You will from time to time be required to undertake other duties of a similar nature as reasonably required by your line manager, including deputising for the Head of Student Services.

Skills
Managing one or more specialist student support teams of preferably in a Higher
Education context.
Understanding of higher education structures, concepts and practices, and how to effect change and influence institutional practice.
Knowledge and experience of promoting inclusive teaching practices and the delivery of high quality disability services.
Experience of casework management relating to disabled students with complex needs.
Ability to lead a professional team working across professional boundaries within a large and complex organisation
Excellent communication, interpersonal, team working and influencing skills.
