AGENDA ITEMS 1. Summer "cancel for low enrollment window" Angie Gora, guest Summer cancellation will move from three weeks in advance of class start date to two weeks. Angie will get info out. RFP for summer workshops, etc. due Jan. 13 2. Graduation Check sheets proposal 3. Centralized Scheduling 15 minutes Michelle Frenzel, guest Martin 4. 4-year course rotation plan for each program Martin Items 2, 3, and 4: We do not have centralized scheduling. We are going through space utilization study of all university rooms right now to submit to system. Centralized scheduling may help address students who have course conflicts with class schedules, but it will not help with utilization. EARS is not being used by faculty. More information and reminders need to go out to faculty along with instructions on how to use the program. We are looking at software that can provide assistance to students in keeping track of their 4 year course plans. Each department will be asked to provide a course rotation that will be uploaded to the registrar’s web site so that students can track their progress now with their advisers until the new software is assessed. 5. Consistency across Colleges/Summer Chairs/Caps Martin Faculty who cancel a class session for any reason must inform the dean’s office and inform their students about the class cancellation as far in advance as possible. Each college has a process for this. We need to remind students about checking email/D2L class shell, etc. if weather raises concerns about a class possibly being canceled. Chair extra contractual days for summer: We follow the IFO contract. Expectation is that chairs teach a summer course as part of their summer days or work on a major project for the department in lieu of teaching a course. The agreement for summer duties is done in consultation between the chair, dean and the association as per contract. Asking chairs in a college to be on campus for common meeting days for planning purposes is also an expectation, but the number of days and dates are set in consultation with the chairs, dean and the association. Caps for summer courses: Expectation is generally that summer caps are the same as fall/spring semesters. Final exams or similarly rigorous capstone experiences are to be held during the regularly scheduled finals week. This has always been the expectation at BSU and it will continue to be the expectation. Any variation from this expectation must be approved by the dean. 6. Improving Academic Advising Martin CPD will be offering sessions on academic advising. We are looking at the software mentioned previously as well. 7. Question regarding using electronic devices in classroom Martin Shawn will draft a policy to bring forward that will support faculty who need to ban the use of electronic devices during a class or part of a class. 8. Residential campus Jeanine The strategic enrollment management group will include a section of recommendations on reinvigorating the residential experience for students at BSU. We need to send them our recommendations to consider. 9. Administrator Evaluation Phase I Martin The survey is going to meet and confer next week. 10. Other Campus writing group is being started for faculty who wish to participate. Water lab and regional impact…getting close to implementation.
