BEST PRACTICES IN ACTIVE LEARNING Nancy Petges from Nursing, Kelly Roush from Theatre, and Heidi Schlumpf from Communications September 27, 2013 PRESENTATION SYNOPSIS A discussion and overview of what active learning is, with shared concrete examples from each presenter as to how they have used active learning in the classroom, followed by open discussion/shared best practices by all in attendance, concluding with a discussion of obstacles to active learning and how to approach them. PRESENTATION OBJECTIVES Create a forum for discussion about active learning in the classroom. We plan to share examples of how active learning has been employed in our classrooms, including the obstacles that we have found, and ask for other best practices used and learned from all participants.
