Signature: Change of Supervision Form: 20160218 Date: Higher degree by research supervision at UTAS Important Information Supervision of higher degree by research candidates at UTAS is governed by the Rules of Graduate Research (Rule 4) and its associated Higher Degree by Research Policies, these documents can be found at: http://www.utas.edu.au/researchadmin/graduate-research/rules-policies-procedures-and-guidelines Minimum Requirements A minimum of two supervisors must be nominated, one of whom will be appointed as the primary supervisor The primary supervisor should be a member of the academic staff in the School / Institute in which the candidate is enrolled. The Primary supervisor should have the largest or equal largest supervision load All supervisors must be registered as per Rule 4 and the Higher Degree by Research Supervision Policy Registration and Re-registration If any of the proposed supervisors are not currently registered a complete application for registration must accompany this application; download the application from staff forms section of Research forms: Supervisors are normally registered for a period of 7 years (3 years for Adjunct) before a re-registration application is required. If supervisors are unsure of their registration status they should contact the Graduate Research Administration Officer at the Research Hub prior to submitting this application. If a supervisor’s registration has expired a completed application for re-registration must accompany this application. Restrictions on Supervisors Current graduate research candidates can only be appointed as supervisors once the final copies of their thesis have been submitted to the Graduate Research Office. UTAS staff appointed on an Honorary/Adjunct basis cannot be primary supervisors Supervisors are not permitted to supervise more than the equivalent of seven full-time candidates. A maximum of four registered supervisors is allowed per supervisor team. Supervision across Schools If the nominated supervisors are from different schools/institutes, the GRC’s of ALL relevant Schools / Institutes must endorse the supervision arrangements. Supervision Load A percentage of supervision must be attributed to every supervisor. If one is not provided the supervision will be split equally between all supervisors. Research Advisors Research advisors do not need to be added to this application. A Research Advisor need not be a member of the staff of UTAS and is not required to be registered with the Board of Graduate Research. Research advisors may be appointed to provide specialist technical expertise or to assist the supervisor(s).
