Unit description* Leadership and Service: Developing Skills That Enhance Your Employability will provide you with opportunities to identify and develop your leadership skills through engagement with guided resources, group and individual activities, web and face-to-face workshops and a self-selected volunteering or service activity. This unit will explore key leadership development concepts and how these link to employability including: leadership of self; valuing diversity, goal setting, vision building, team building, reflective practice and creativity. Through participation in outward facing service activities and individual and group reflective activities you will explore your own leadership goals and expressions of leadership and have the opportunity to compare and contrast these with your peers. Activities and assessment will support you to plan for ways to incorporate leadership and service experiences throughout your degree. The unit requires a minimum of 10 hours of community service or volunteering. The skills developed in this unit will provide the foundation for you to be able to recognise and showcase your leadership experiences which will enhance your employability. This unit is the first stage for students wishing to participate in the Vice Chancellor’s Leadership Program. Intended Learning Outcomes* On completion of this unit, you will be able to: 1. Engage with a range of leadership development concepts to identify and articulate your personal leadership goals; 2. Provide evidence of ways in which your volunteer experience contributes to your graduate employability; 3. Reflect on your perceptions of leadership and how these relate to other’s perceptions; and 4. Identify goals and pathways to guide your leadership and service engagement throughout your degree.
