FCS 579 Supervised Student Teaching and Follow-Up of Teachers. 2 hours.
Laboratory. Departmental representatives will visit each student teacher during the
professional semester. Additionally, departmental representatives will follow-up with
each area student during the first year of teaching with assistance and support. Concurrent
enrollment in the professional semester is required. Offered on a Pass-Fail basis only.
Course Objectives:
The student teacher will work cooperatively with the supervising teacher to design
effective lessons and present them to classes in an appropriate manner.
The student teacher should have a variety of experiences in three main categories:
curriculum, instruction, and assessment. Competent and successful teachers ensure that
these aspects of education are meaningful, relevant, interesting and engaging to all
students.
The student teacher will meet all requirements established by the college of education
and the guidelines of the 68 indicators.
Course Requirements
Meet during the weekly designated times with other members of the
FACS Professional Semester Class and the advisor. (Required 5

of students, discipline in the classroom, behavior situations, curriculum,
expectations, assessment, memorable lessons, hands-on teaching,
professionalism, extra curricular activities, needs for improvement,

Lunch on Thursdays are a wonderful time for you to meet together and visit about
your experience. I really enjoy meeting with you and hearing your stories. I realize
that you may have other business that you need to take care of on Thursdays, but if
possible, please plan to eat together on those days. We can decide each week where
we want to eat.
