Ethics in Business
Prerequisites
Graduate standing.
Description
Examination of ethical problems and conflicts encountered by managers attempting to fit their
organizations to the larger social environment. Addresses ethics, codes of ethics, and social
responsibility of organizations in domestic and global environments.
Student Learning Outcomes
On completion of the course, the student should be able to:

Define the duties of care and fair dealing.
Apply ethical principles to decisions in business and industry.
Describe issues and perspectives on employee rights to privacy.
Discuss interventions that promote ethical decision making in the workplace.
Purpose
To introduce and illuminate the range of ethical issues confronting business managers in today’s
society, and to help clarify how managers can frame the issues. Emphasis is placed on rationally
approaching complex policy decisions when moral common sense is insufficient to arrive at a
better policy decision affecting employees, customers, and society in general. MSM Leadership
and Organizational Effectiveness concentration requirement. MBA unspecified elective (nonAccounting). MSHRM elective.
