Workforce Planning and Staffing
Prerequisites
Graduate standing.
Description
A study of theory, principles, and legal requirements for effective workforce planning,
recruitment, selection, and employment in organizational settings. The course provides an indepth analysis of tools, techniques, and statistical concepts applied to the fundamental HR
function of workforce planning and talent acquisition.
Objectives
Upon completion of the course, the student should be able to:

Discuss the relationship between staffing and business strategy.
Identify major employment laws and their application to the staffing process.
Evaluate a hiring scenario for adverse impact.
Discuss the role of job analysis in the staffing process.
Explain the role of measurement and associated statistical concepts in the staffing process.
Develop a selection plan and compare and contrast the value of different selection methods
for identifying a candidate’s suitability for employment.
7. Compare and contrast selection methods appropriate for external vs. internal selection.
8. Evaluate the terms of an employment offer for appropriate content and format.
9. Relate global HR staffing strategies to business strategies in an apt scenario.
Purpose
To provide functional knowledge of the necessary concepts, processes, practices, and major
quantitative techniques for effective participation in workforce planning and staffing, including
human resource planning, recruitment, selection, and hiring, in a global environment.
Master Syllabi are developed by the senior faculty in each business discipline. This Master Syllabus must be used as the basis for developing the
instructor syllabus for this course, which must also comply with the content specifications outlined in the Troy University Faculty Handbook.
The objectives included on this Master Syllabus must be included among the objectives on the instructor’s syllabus, which may expand upon the
same as the instructor sees fit. The statement of purpose seeks to position the course properly within the curriculum and should be consulted by
faculty as a source of advisement guidance. Specific choice of text and other details are further subject to Program Coordinator guidance.
