48 Hour Gratitude Video Contest Who: CWRU Student Body When: March 18-20 Where: CWRU Campus What: 48 Hour gratitude video contest -See details below Prizes: $500 Cash Trophy Selected winning video could be utilized in a Thank you email sent to alumni and donors Objective: To provide CWRU students an opportunity to thank the donors and alumni for their continued support. This opportunity will also test their teamwork and caffeine fueled, adrenaline creativity in a crucible of 48 hours. Eligibility: o All team members must be CWRU students. o Outside teammates are ineligible. To enter: o Students will send the following information to Michelle Holy at mxh647@case.edu: Names of member(s) Class years Contact person/team leader Email Phone number Best way to contact: phone call, text, or email Potential concept (optional) Rules: o Times: Official time period: Begins: Friday, March 18 at 7pm Ends: Sunday, March 20 at 7pm The participating teams/individuals must complete the video work in time to submit it to Michelle Holy at mxh647@case.edu by 7pm. Only works that meet the deadline will be officially part of the competition. All films received on Sunday will be screened. o Creative Process: All creativity MUST take place during the Official Time Period. Any creative work in advance of the competition weekend is prohibited. Creative work includes, but is not limited to: Writing the script Rehearsing Costume and set design Shooting Editing Sound Design Rendering Outputting to mp4 format o Preparation: The only work allowed to begin prior to the Official Time Period: Organizing Crew o Organizing Cast Securing Equipment Scouting/Securing Locations Footage: All footage must be shot within the Official Time Period of the project. No stock footage or foot shot created at any other time may be used. Animation and special effects are permitted. However, these must be created during the Official Time Period. Still photographs are permitted, provided that the teams has the rights to them. The photos do NOT need to be created during the Official Time Period. o Required Elements: Each participating group will be assigned required elements that must appear in its film, such as a character, prop, and/or a line of dialogue. The required character, prop, and line of dialogue will be emailed to all groups on March 16. The required character must be seen on-screen and it must be clear—either directly shown or by context. The required prop must be see on-screen The required Line of Dialogue must be used verbatim. It may be spoken, sung, signed (American Sign Language) and/or written. o Volunteers: All cast and crew must be volunteers. o Cameras: Any type of video/film camera may be used. There is no limit to the number of cameras. o Landmark requirement: The video/film must encompass the CWRU campus in some manner. o Music Rights: Participating groups are encouraged to work with a composer and or/musicians to write and record music for films. It is permissible for participants to use ‘royalty free’ music. As with music, pre-recorded sound effects are allowed, but you must have rights to use them. Note: song parodies (i.e. use of identifiable pre-existing compositions with new or altered lyrics or music) may NOT be included in the film. o Total Running Time: The finished film must be a maximum of 2 minutes (prefer: 90 sec)—not including end credits. o Required Media Format: All videos can be submitted by: Sending an mp4 file to mxh647@case.edu o Production Documents: Each team member must secure releases for talent, crew, music, and locations (and any other applicable releases), which must be turned in to the project organizers with the finished film/video. Note: The film/video will not be screened before if signed releases are note received. Judging of entries: o Eligible entries will be judged based on the judging criteria below: Artistic Merit (e.g. story, creativity, entertainment value) 50% Technical Merit 30% Adherence to rules 20% o Entries will be judged by a process in which qualified panels of judged will evaluate the eligible entries based on the above judging criteria. 48 Hour Gratitude Video Winner: o The top entry will be declared the winner. In the event of a tie, the tie will be broken based on the highest score in the first Judging Criteria (Artistic Merit), continuing thereafter to each judging criteria in order ass needed to break the tie. End of competition event At the conclusion of the event, USG, the Stewardship Office, and the Office of Annual Giving will host a video viewing party in a TBD location.
