File Management on Your Computer
Management of your own personal records is a very important skill. In this in-class we will consider the organization of the files on your computer. These files can range from documents, spreadsheets, to presentations.
For file management ask yourself the question: in two or three years will I be able to find the document I’m creating today? Sounds wacky, but you’d be surprised what you might need to recreate for the IRS or be able to show your boss what you accomplished two years ago. In college, maybe you want to re- read the bibliography of a paper you wrote for freshman English.
You major tools to combat a mess of files are 1) file folders and 2) file naming conventions that make sense to you (you use them consistently).
Assume you have accumulated the following files over a few semesters.
Give each item a filename and assign it to a folder.
English 101 paper on book 1984
English 201 paper on literary criticism
Global history 311 paper on workers in China
