COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course is designed to provide the student with skills that have an
emphasis on the nurse assistant. The student will have the opportunity to apply these skills in clinical
experiences in various health care facilities throughout the community using transference of
knowledge from the classroom/lab setting to the clinical setting. Students will be eligible to take the
SC Nurse Aide Exam if all requirements are met.The course is designed to enhance articulation
between high school courses and post-secondary health curriculums.
CREDITS: Upon successfully passing this course, 2 (two) units of credit will be issued.
PREREQUISITES: Health Science 1 and 2 with grade of 77 or higher and recommendation of
instructor, Adult, Infant, Child CPR Certification, 2-Step PPD Skin Test,
Transportation

EVALUATION: Grades are on a point system. Students are given points for their work and the total
number of points they accumulate is divided by the total number of points possible to give them a
numerical grade. Students are instructed on the use of the point system at the beginning of the
semester, this allows them to compute or view their grade at any time within the semester.

STUDENT BEHAVIOR CODE It is important that we operate and behave in the classroom and lab
setting in a manner where we are all respected and have the opportunity to learn. Disorderly conduct
and disruptive behavior will be dealt with according to District Policies. All work must represent the
student’s individual efforts unless otherwise instructed. Parents, administration, and student
conferences and/or phone calls will be conducted for discipline problems.
Class rules are as follows:
Cheating of any form is not acceptable and will not be tolerated.
Respect property of classroom and lab
No cell phones are to be out unless instructed to do so. (See cell phone consequences located on
bulletin board).
You are expected to have class supplies and book daily.
Remain seated until bell rings. Do not line up at classroom door.
Students are not to be in hospital beds unless instructed to do so.
No sleeping in class!
MAKEUP WORK POLICY: All makeup work needs to be completed in a timely manner. Prior to
making up missed assignments, an excuse (medical or parent note) needs to be turned in to teacher so
that absence can be excused.
RETEST POLICY: If retesting is deemed necessary by the instructor or for students with special
accommodation plans, students will be allowed to retest and an average of the tests scores will be
recorded as a final grade.
ATTENDANCE AND TARDIES: The District Policy on attendance and tardies will be enforced.
Attendance is extremely important in this level due to possibility of receiving CNA eligibility. More
than 3 absences from clinical will result in ineligibility to for CNA status and testing. 100 hours total
are required in order to be eligible to take the CNA exam.
 Students must complete a minimum of 40 clinical hours to be eligible to take the SC CNA
Certification Exam.
 Students must notify the clinical instructor prior to 8 am it they will be absent for any clinical
day and in the event they are late to the clinical site. (There are no makeup dates for clinical).
 If the instructor is absent on a clinical day, students will be notified and should report to
Anderson 5 Career Campus.
 In the event of inclement weather students are to follow the guidelines of Anderson District 5.
Students will also be notified by the clinical instructor as to what steps to take in the event the
late arrival is for first period only.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: The following information will be helpful in your planning for
the class:
 The class fee is $30.00 ($25 for required background check).
 The cost of the CNA exam is $101.00. This must be paid online in the form of a debit or credit
card.
 You must provide to me a copy of your immunization record, CPR card and automobile
insurance information before you are allowed to participate in the clinical rotation.
 You will need to purchase black shoes and solid white socks.
 There is a mandatory flu shot required in order to attend clinical site.
 Individual transportation is mandatory for each student.
