Dear Parents/Guardians,
Welcome to 7th grade! This is going to be a GREAT year!! I’d like to share
some important information regarding the structure of our math class. I encourage
you to discuss this with your child and contact me if you have any questions.

Our daily lesson will be presented on PowerPoint slides. These can be found
on the McCants website, classrooms, 7th grade, Renee Brissey. My webpage
contains information for both Accelerated Math and Math 7 classes; please
be sure to open the appropriate tab when accessing your child’s notes.
Notes will be updated as new information is added; typically by 4 pm.
If your child is ever absent, please check these notes for the work that
he/she may have missed.
Students are assigned approximately 10 – 20 minutes of homework every
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. I rarely assign homework over
the weekend. Homework is checked for completion; this includes writing out
the problems and showing their work.
Students are expected to copy the homework assignments daily; when
Chromebooks are distributed, students will receive instruction on using the
Goggle Calendar; however, until then, they have been given a weekly
agenda sheet for recording purposes. Homework assignments are posted in
three locations: our ‘Daily Agenda’ common whiteboard, our ‘Homework’
board, and on the PPT note slides (on my webpage).
This year, math students will use a binder with three tab dividers; they also
need a two pocket folder. Please make sure that your child has plenty of
notebook paper and plenty of pencils with erasers. Ink is NOT allowed in
class nor is it allowed on homework assignments.
Student grades consist of three categories; major tests/projects, quizzes,
and informal assessments. These categories are weighted: tests count three
times, quizzes twice, and informal assessments once.
A participation grade (informal assessment) is recorded once every two
weeks; this grade includes homework completion and other classroom
activities.
As soon as students’ home email addresses are compiled, I will send weekly
updates to keep you informed about class happenings.
I believe that everyone can learn anything as long as he/she never quits trying.
My goal is to help your child realize his/her potential and achieve success in math.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you ever have any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Renee Brissey
