I.
Call to Order
The monthly meeting of the Missouri State University Professional Education Committee convened
at 3:30 pm. Chair, Diana Piccolo presiding. A quorum was established.
II.
Minutes
Motion was made and seconded to approve the minutes of October 8, 2014 meeting. All approved.
Minutes stand.
III.
Announcements
a. School Media Library Certification Program – Diana Piccolo
Crystal D. Gale, Associate Profession in Library Science, wanted to let the committee know that
the School Media Library Certification Program is being discontinued.
b. MACTE Conference Report – Diana Piccolo
192 participates at the conference. AAT had a presentation at the conference. The AAT
teaching recommendation schedule for each program and which courses and number of hours
used will be reviewed at the Ad-Hoc Committee meeting tomorrow, Nov 13.
c. COE and Outreach Faculty met MSU, WP, OCT and Crowder on Oct 30 to develop a plan of
transition for the programs to make sure the menu of options across the program can be made to
work with all the two year colleges.
d. PEC/EPPC Name Change – Diana Piccolo and Rebecca Woodard will be meeting with Cindy
MacGregor on Nov 17 to clarify final issues. It should be in Senate December or January.
IV.
Administrative Updates
a. Unit Update – Chris Craig, Head of the PEU
No report.
b. MABEP Update – David Hough, Dean of COE
Nov 17 MACCE Group meets. Gilbert Brown is our MACCE Representative. They will be
making recommendations on cut scores on the Pearson content assessments. This is also a
major agenda item for MABEP’s next meeting.
c. Assessment Update – James Sottile, Associate Dean of COE
The Assessment Committee will be meeting Dec 5. David Hough will be speaking with the
Provost later this week about the recommendation of Taskstream. At the Dec 5 meeting they
will also be discussing CAEP standards and MoSPE standards. Will be asking each program
coordinator for their standards so they will have a bigger picture of assessment.
d. Secondary Education Update – Rebecca Woodard, Interim Director of Secondary Ed
The Ad-Hoc Committee on DESE Rule Changes will be meeting tomorrow. Will be discussing
the Secondary core and the AAT recommendation.

V.
Committee Reports
a. Admissions, Procedures, & Retention – Cheryl Wrinkle
The Beginning Teacher Assistance Program (BTAP) is a collaboration of Baptist Bible College,
College of the Ozarks, Drury University, Missouri State University, and Southwest Baptist
University. Any beginning educator may sign up for any of the workshops
(http://education.missouristate.edu/btap/). Taskstream has the ability to keep track of our
graduates if we will design a framework to put into Taskstream. If anyone would like to
volunteer to help with this, please contact Dr. Wrinkle. Exit interviews were also discussed.
b. Membership & Professional Development – Chair Beth Hurst
No report.
c. Program Review – Chair Needed
No report.
d. Diversity – Chair Margaret Weaver (Diana Piccolo reported)
The committee will be bringing forward a proposal to the Rules Committee regarding
committee membership within the bylaws to include two diversity scholarship recipients (one
graduate and one undergraduate).
e. Conceptual Framework – Chair Needed
No report.
f. BSED Secondary Oversight – Chair Andrew Homburg
The committee met with their advisory board in October and gained a lot of recommendations
and insight with all of the new DESE changes. The committee meets next this Friday.
g. MSED Secondary Oversight – Chair David Oatman
The committee met Oct 16 and Teresa Simpson from the Graduate College spoke to them about
the virtual fair. Many signed up for this. Research component of MSED was discussed.
h. Screening – Chair Michelle Morgan

i. Exceptions and Compliance – Chair Gayle Runke
The committee will meet the last week of the semester or during finals. Be sure to turn in any
applications.

Members received candidate rosters from the College of Education and the Secondary
Education office. Motion was made and seconded to approve each of the candidate rosters.
Motions carried.

Old Business
a. Program Review Chair Needed
Rebecca Woodard is willing to chair the committee and Diana Piccolo would assist. A motion
was made and seconded to approve Dr. Woodard as Chair of the PRC and Dr. Piccolo assisting.
Motion carried.
