DECEMBER Memos from Mrs. Sharp and Ms. Groves NOTES TO PARENTS: Thank you all for your careful attention to the library books that were sent home with students over the Thanksgiving holidays! What an impact you make in reading with your child daily! Visiting the bookmobile has become one of the favorite activities in our classroom and we love that our learners are so enthusiastic about literacy and language! In the coming weeks, the forecast projects that we will encounter much colder weather than we have experienced this school year. Accordingly, we ask that your child wear clothing that is appropriate for the cold temperature. We make every effort to have outdoor gross motor time daily, so coats are necessary during the winter months. Also, it is advisable to send in a change of clothes that includes long sleeve shirts and long pants in case of an accident. As you send these in, we will return the warm weather change of clothes that we have in the classroom. It is exciting to see learning taking place through our adventures in the classroom! We would love to share these encounters with our families as well as our students; so, if you are able, we would love to have you join us in our classroom- if even for just a few moments. Thank you to the parents and grandparents who have taken time to volunteer! You are appreciated! PROGRAM: We will continue our work center rotations in our classrooms this month, as well as our “letter of the week,” “sounds in motion,” and show and tell activities. So far, we have learned letter “Aa,” “Ll,” “Pp,” “Ss,” “Ff,” “Tt,” and letter “Ww.” In the coming month, we will learn letter “Kk” and “Rr.” To reinforce the concepts we are learning in the classroom, we ask that students complete daily homework activities which are sent home in folders on Mondays. When students return these activities on Friday, they are rewarded with a homework prize! Additional tasks that may help young learners is name practice. We would love to see each and every youngster succeed with confidence in writing their own name. No special tools are needed for this activity; any type of paper and writing utensil will do!
