Course Goals and Objectives Revised version after committee meeting 11/30/07 Goal #1: Students will begin to view themselves as scholars and understand the role of scholarship in the University and larger society. Objective A: Students will begin to develop information literacy, critical thinking, and communication skills in an academic area by successfully completing a research project or scholarly paper and orally presenting a summary of findings. Objective B: Students will create a project or presentation that illustrates the connection of the Public Affairs Mission to an academic course topic. Objective C: Students will follow policies and practices of academic integrity and ethical behavior expected in the academic community. Goal #2: Students will understand, value <internalize?><appreciate?>, and participate in the University’s Public Affairs Mission. Objective A: Students will articulate the University’s Public Affairs Mission and its relation to their personal goals. Objective B: Students will understand the Public Affairs Mission and its wider societal impact through a critical analysis of a common reader. Objective C: Students will <select and >participate in at least one Public Affairs related service learning activity. Objective D: Students will begin to develop leadership skills necessary to fulfill the Public Affairs Mission. Goal #3: Students will <begin to> establish a supportive network of faculty, staff, and other students, while becoming familiar with Missouri State University resources and services that support learning and campus connections. Objective A: Students will identify avenues for participation in student organizations and co-curricular activities. Objective B: Students will locate and utilize resources that support diversity among communities, cultures, and worldviews. <needs discussion on how to revise this objective> Objective C: Students will establish working relationships with their instructors and with their academic advisor. Goal #4: Students will begin to develop knowledge of their abilities and skills related to the pursuit of their academic and personal goals. Objective A: Students will chart 4-year graduation plans for their major or area of academic interest. Objective B: Students will set challenging goals for personal and academic development resulting in a Personal Development Plan. Objective C: Students will develop knowledge and skills in selected areas after completing a self-evaluation related to student success. (e.g. Time Management, Personal Finance, Study Skills, Leadership, Learning Styles, Goal Setting, etc.)
