Missouri State University Honors College Distinction Project Submission Instructions The Honors Distinction Project must be submitted to the Honors College on the final day of classes prior to a student’s graduation. When preparing your project for submission, follow the guidelines listed below. Distinction Project Format The completed project will contain the following components in the order given: Acceptance/Signature Page Title Page Abstract Table of Contents List of Tables (if any) List of Figures, Plates, or Illustrations (if any) Body of Thesis Literature Cited, References, or Bibliography Appendix (if any) Index (if any) Project Acceptance/Signature Page. The format shown below is to be used. The page must bear the signatures of the project advisor, department head, and Director of the Honors College. Title Page. The required format is shown below. The title and author entries are centered within the margins of the title page. The title, in all capitals, is double spaced and presented in inverted pyramid style if longer than 48 spaces. This page is counted as "I" but pagination is not shown. Abstract. The format shown below must be used. The abstract should be not more than 350 words and should contain a statement of the problems, materials, methods or procedures used, a presentation of principle results, and a conclusion or summary. The body of the abstract should be single spaced and limited to one page. Number as "ii" in pagination. Distinction Project Preparation Form Use one side of 8 2" x 11" white, bond paper. Spacing Double space all materials in text. Single space may be used for footnotes or quotations of five lines or more. Print Size and Quality Standard pica (10 characters per inch), elite (12 characters per inch) or proportional spacing is required. Script or slanted faces are not acceptable. Italics may be used for book or journal titles, scientific names of species, and other appropriate situations. Acceptable print quality: letterquality (laserjet or inkjet). Margins One 2" left side. One-inch top, right side, and bottom. The area within these margins must contain all parts of the project -- all parts of illustrations, graphs, the body of the project, and the page numbers. Page Numbering Page numbers should be in the upper right hand corner, 1" from the top and 1" from the right edge of each page. Pages prior to the body of the project should be numbered with small Roman numerals (I, ii, iii, etc.); the body of the project through the index should be numbered with Arabic numerals (1, 2, 3, etc.). Consider Submitting Your Project to LOGOS: A Journal of Undergraduate Research When emailing the electronic version of your paper to the editor for submission, the Reason/Subject line of the email must read "LOGOS Submission." For editorial purposes, the email should include the following information in the following order: a. Title of submission b. Citation style used c. Name(s) and department(s) of author(s) d. Address, telephone number, and email at which the author(s) may be reached e. A 2-3 sentence blurb about the author's interests and/or academic/career goals (In the event of publication, this blurb will be put at the end of the submission along with a picture of the author) Submissions should normally be no longer than 10,000 words. Text submissions must be in Microsoft Word format. The file name should be the title of the work as it is to appear in publication. Images (drawing, paintings, photography, graphs, charts, formulas, etc.) must be submitted in a separate electronic file, either TIFF or PNG format for all color images. Black and white images are acceptable in JPEG form, but only at a resolution of 350 DPI or higher. Text that is meant to have figures or illustrations embedded within it should contain a legend from which editors may refer to the appropriate images in their reading. Include the following with your submission: Abstract All submissions must include a brief abstract (or summary). This abstract must be included within the same electronic file that contains the submission. There are many abstract writing help websites out there on the Internet. Here's the one we recommend: Abstract Help. Academic abstracts should summarize the purpose, methods, results, and conclusions of the research. Abstracts will be published as a preface to the submission. Creative abstracts should provide information on the author, context, influences, and artistic intent. If you can, help the reviewers to understand exactly what makes the piece original. You may also include information about materials and techniques. Additional files/material Professional looking photograph of the author (In the event of publication, this photograph will be placed next to the author blurb at the end of the submission) Author's Agreement MUST be printed, filled out, and returned to the Honors College (at the address below) for the submission to be eligable for publication Where to Send Things: Send e-mail submissions and queries to logos@missouristate.edu Send CD-ROMs and/or Authors Agreements to: Honors College c/o Dr. John F.
