CLASSROOM PROJECTS

PART 1 – GENERAL
1.1 DESCRIPTION
A.
The work required for these projects involves renovations to the classroom spaces noted below
and are clarified on the corresponding sketches and photo sheets.
1.2 RELATED DOCUMENTS
A.
Drawings, photos and general provisions of the Contract, including General and Supplementary
Conditions and all other Specification Sections referenced, apply to this section.

All painted surfaces are positive for lead containing paint. Federal, State, Local and OSHA
requirements are to be strictly adhered to for all lead abatement. Contractor shall wrap lead
waste in 6-mil plastic, transport and store lead waste on Owner’s site in a location to be
designated. Owner shall dispose of lead waste.
All contractor personnel working on the project shall be certified by the U.S. Environmental
Protection Agency (EPA) for lead based paint activities.
All Contractors shall provide current blood test results for ALL employees working on
Wesleyan properties in the performance of demolition, window installations, and painting
activities before the start of any work.

1.5 GENERAL PROJECT REQUIREMENTS

Contractor shall adhere to the project manual.
Contractor to assume all paint is lead containing.
Coordinate all work with Owner’s Representative.
Buildings are occupied.
The contractor will be responsible to ensure daily clean up of work performed. Project site must
be kept clean and free from tripping hazards.
Conduct construction waste management activities in accordance with the State of Connecticut
EPA, Middletown Municipal Code and all other applicable laws and ordinances. Removal of
debris is to be disposed of in contractor supplied dumpsters at a centralized location.
Coordinate all work with work of other trades.
Contractor to comply with all State and Federal Codes, City of Middletown Ordinances, OSHA
requirements and Wesleyan University General Project Requirements and Closeout Procedures.
Provide as-built condition drawings.

After review of site, contractors are responsible for any required temporary protection during
the work.
Any overtime required to complete project MUST be brought to Owner’s attention prior to
submission of bid.
Coordinate the use of motorized lifts with Owner. Contractor shall protect turf, concrete walks
and pavement as required. Damaged turf, concrete walks and pavement shall be repaired by the
contractor at no cost to the Owner.
This is an occupied building. Doors to facilities must be kept closed at all times; any propped
doors will be closed by Wesleyan University facility operations staff or public safety, no
complaints or exceptions. If doors are to be propped the door shall be watched by a
representative of this contractor.
PART 2 – SCOPE OF WORK
2.1 VAN VLECK OBSERVATORY, RM. 110; 96 FOSS HILL DR.
A. Contractor shall remove and dispose of all existing ceiling light fixtures and switches not to be
reused in Rm. 110.
B. Contractor shall install new light fixtures as specified on sheet L-1A.
C. Contractor shall install two (2) 0-10V wall box dimmers one (1) to control the front and one (1) to
control the back rows of lights as specified on sheet L-1A. These dimmers shall be installed
adjacent to the front classroom door as shown on sheet L-1A.
D. Contractor shall install two (2) on/off switches adjacent to the rear classroom door as shown on
sheet L-1A - one (1) to control the front and one (1) to control the back rows of lights as specified
on sheet L-1A.
E. Contractor shall prep, patch & paint the entire ceiling. The ceiling slopes to the top of the
perimeter crown molding just above the windows on the wall. Ceiling color shall be Flat White.
F. Contractor shall prep, patch and paint a section of the south wall to repair the area that was
previously patched (Reference photo sheet – area to be repaired is adjacent to the wall clock
location).
G. Contractor shall patch and paint area on north wall, on either side of chalkboard due to switch
H. Contractor shall cover existing classroom furniture and floor to protect from dust and debris.
I. Contractor shall perform final vacuuming, dusting and cleaning upon completion of all work.
2.2
EXLEY SCIENCE CENTER, RM 058; 265 CHURCH ST.
A. Contractor shall provide Option #1 & Option #2 pricing in the appropriate space on the bid
proposal form to furnish and install the following:
a. Liton Lighting LTD5015 (15Watt), white finish, B60 wide flood beam spread, DLV
dimming driver - install seven (7) LTD50 Ecotrack 15W LED fixtures.
b. Provide two (2) LPC12: 12’ tracks for a total length of 24’. Track finish shall be white.
Provide all system track components, clips, connectors, mounting hardware and
accessories as required for a complete and operational system.
c. Field verify length of track in field.
d. OPTION #1 Pricing: Bid shall incorporate the Liton system noted above and shall be
wired and programmed to the existing Lutron dimming panel in series with the recessed
lighting over the teaching area. Provide Lutron system programming as required for a
complete functional system.
e. OPTION #2 Pricing: Bid shall incorporate the Liton system noted above and shall be
wired as a stand alone system in lieu of wiring into the existing Lutron dimming panel.

Provide two (2) diming switches, one for each 12’ channel. Coordinate diming switch
locations with Owner. Tie into existing electrical system as required.
B. Contractor shall prep, patch & paint the ceiling and disturbed wall area.
C. Contractor shall cover existing classroom furniture and floor to protect from dust and debris.
D. Contractor shall perform final vacuuming, dusting and cleaning upon completion of all work.
