OCR Entry Level Cambridge Award in Mathematics: Calculations with
whole numbers (Entry 2) (600/7561/2)
What does this qualification cover?
Learners will have mathematical abilities, knowledge and understanding to carry out simple skills with
guidance. On completion of this unit the learner will be able to recognise the value of numbers up to
100 and carry out simple addition, subtraction and multiplication. They will also be able to count in twos
and tens up to 100. These skills are frequently used in a wide range of in everyday contexts such as
working out total quantities needed when shopping for food or buying materials for a building project.
Who is this qualification designed for?
This qualification is designed for those who need to improve their knowledge and skills in mathematics.
This could be, in one or more specific skill area up to level 2, so that learners can function more
effectively in their homes, in their communities and at work. These qualifications provide a unit-based
approach that can stand alone or be part of a wider programme. Achievement of individual
qualifications supports learners’ progress towards an appropriate level 2 mathematics qualification
(GCSE or Functional Skills). The individual qualifications allow learners to target specific gaps in their
knowledge at a particular level which supports their progress towards the appropriate level 2
qualification (GCSE or Functional Skills). Learners who ultimately aim for a Functional Skills or a
GCSE qualification may have struggled with mathematics skills throughout their lives and will therefore
need to be supported and motivated through the achievement of smaller, more focused qualifications
which provide them with the specific skills and confidence to continue learning and achieving en route
to their ultimate aim. Once a learner is secure in all the underpinning skills filled by OCR’s Cambridge
Progression mathematics units, learners can then progress to a Functional Skills qualification or level 2
or GCSE.
What could this qualification lead to?
This qualification has been designed specifically to support progression to further learning and work. It
is based on the National Adult Numeracy standards. This provides the necessary rigour and flexibility
to support a wide range of progression opportunities in line with the needs of individual learners. This
includes progression towards Functional Skills and GCSE.
