Catalog Description and Credit Hours: Final supervised clinical experience. Focus includes the development, implementation, documentation of comprehensive injury/illness treatment plans including psychological, nutritional, pharmacological, and general medical considerations. (1 credit hour) II. Prerequisites: HL 265; HL 384; HL 444. III. Purpose or Objective of the Course: A. Develop a comprehensive treatment plan including an initial assessment and rehabilitation program for injuries involving the lower extremity. B. Develop a comprehensive treatment plan including an initial assessment and rehabilitation program for injuries involving the upper extremity. C. Develop a comprehensive treatment plan including an initial assessment and rehabilitation program for injuries involving the head and/cervical spine. D. Develop a comprehensive treatment plan including an initial assessment and rehabilitation program for injuries involving a general medical condition. E. Develop a comprehensive treatment plan including an initial assessment and rehabilitation program for injuries involving the thorax and/or lumbar spine. F. Demonstrate the proper documentation methods for each comprehensive treatment plan. IV. Expectations of Students: A. Each student will be expected to actively participate in class discussions. B. All students in the course will complete a clinical experience in a setting or a combination of settings under the supervision of an approved clinical instructor (ACI). The Athletic Training Clinical Education Coordinator will assign each student to a clinical setting or combination of settings. Each student will be evaluated by their assigned ACI in conjunction with the instructor of this course twice during each of their assigned clinical rotations. The instructor of this course determines the final evaluation score of each student. Students must earn a minimum of a 2 (Likert scale 1-4) on their mid-semester and final clinical evaluations to earn the indicated number of points for each evaluation. It is the student’s responsibility to make an appointment with their ACI to receive both their mid-semester and final evaluations. C. Complete an average of 20 hours per week during your clinical assignment. The Extenuating Circumstance policy does apply to the weekly required hours. If the average weekly hour requirement is not obtained, no points are awarded for the clinical hour requirement of the course. D. Students will write four reflection papers discussing their current clinical rotation experiences. The papers should be a minimum of one page must be turned in on the due date indicated in the course schedule. Assignments less than a page will not be accepted by the instructor. E. Students must pass each assigned clinical proficiency associated with this course. The clinical proficiencies may be assessed during the class time or, preferably, at assigned clinical rotations with an ACI. If the student does not pass a clinical proficiency, the failed proficiency will result in no points awarded for clinical proficiency assessment. F. This course must be completed in the original curriculum sequence that is set for all athletic training students. To advance to the next set of core athletic training courses, each student must pass the class with a grade of ‘C’ or better. If you earn a grade lower than a ‘C’, you will not matriculate to the next set of core athletic training courses. V. VI. Course Content or Outline: Hours A. Review of lower extremity injuries, assessment methods, and rehabilitation techniques. B. Review of upper extremity injuries, assessment methods, and rehabilitation techniques. C. Review of general medical conditions, assessment methods, and rehabilitation techniques. D. Review of head and cervical spine injuries, assessment methods, and rehabilitation techniques. E. Review of thorax, lumbar and abdominal injuries, assessment methods, and rehabilitation techniques. F. Review of the appropriate application and implementation of therapeutic modalities. G.
