I. Catalog Description and Credit Hours of Course: Social, economic, and cultural effects of prevention policies, legal enforcements, and community strategies to prevent and reduce drug abuse and addiction. (3 credit hours)
II. Prerequisite (s): HL 1XX Foundations of Prevention
III. Purposes or Objective of the Course:
A.
Understand the relationship of substance abuse/addiction and public health issues
B. Examine scientifically effective substance abuse and addiction prevention and education philosophies, programs, and interventions
C. Review local, state, and federal policy regarding substances of abuse
D. Recognize scientifically effective methods for early detection and treatment of substance abuse and addiction problems
IV. Expectations of Students:
A. Each student will complete all examinations and assignments.
B. Each student will actively participate in course assignments both in and out of the classroom, which will be evaluated randomly throughout the semester in written and oral format.
