Pease Elementary Department of Instructional Technology Pease Elementary Instructional Technology Implementation Plan 2008-2009 The Campus Technology Committee has developed this Technology Plan. It is aligned with the Austin ISD Technology Plan and the State Long Range Plan for Technology. The campus strategies focus on goals and objectives related to Teaching and Learning and Educator Staff Development. However, a small campus means a small budget with no extra funding available for either technology purchases or maintenance. Several older iMacs and G3s are breaking and have been declared EoL (End of Life) by the district. Funding is needed to replace computers the district will no longer repair. Some of the Lexmark printers are10 years old and are also breaking. (They have also been declared EOL.) Having one networked printer per grade level (compatible with Macs) saves valuable teacher time and improves student productivity. The sixth grade computers consists mostly of Dells received through a grant. They are approaching 8 years old and in need of replacement with Macs. Because we do not have a permanent computer lab, the COWS have proven to be a very valuable and well-utilized asset. Unfortunately, 4 ibooks have been declared EOL and several more break down on a regular basis. The capability of the COWs is diminished each time an iBook is in need of repair. The loss of a fully operational mobile lab diminishes a teacher’s ability to deliver technology instruction to an entire class simultaneously. Finally, portable speakers and projectors in every classroom could also support teachers and students with multimedia presentations. At Pease, more staff training focusing on the successful integration of technology into the core content areas would be most helpful. Finding time for training is a major factor. Our district expects increasing technological competence from its educators. AISD could make technology integration a priority by scheduling training during portions of the district-wide staff development days. Using district staff development time would help emphasize the importance of such training and help improve technology integration. District sponsored teacher webpages will be setup by all faculty members at campus staff development days before the beginning of school. Future Vision and Direction In three years, Pease Elementary teachers will be comfortable and proficient in the integration of technology across the core content areas. Every teacher will commit to frequent use of learning.com in particular and district sponsored websites and databases in general. All teachers will access library computer catalog and district library databases in classrooms on a regular basis. Students will investigate the various information sources available online, and learn to choose the most reliable and authoritative ones. The primary grades will focus on basic skills to build a strong technology foundation. Students in grades 3 – 6 will learn to keyboard proficiently. All grade levels will have the opportunity to integrate media into the written word, achieving mastery of this process by the end of 6th grade. The combined efforts of faculty and students will enrich learning and demonstrate technological solutions to real world problems.
