McBee Elementary Department of Instructional Technology McBee Elementary Instructional Technology Implementation Plan 2008-2009 The Campus Technology Committee has developed this Technology Plan. It is aligned with the Austin ISD Technology Plan and the State Long Range Plan for Technology. The campus strategies focus on goals and objectives related to Teaching and Learning and Educator Staff Development. Our staff would benefit from training that gives simple yet fun ways to integrate technology into the core curriculum. Furthermore, we have 2 COWS, one of which does not work. The COW that does work does not have enough laptops for an entire class. Of the 15 or so laptops that we have, none of them will connect to the wireless internet. We have had IT out on numerous occasions and no one can seem to fix the problem. That said, bringing a COW to the classroom is a huge hassle because teachers have to set up a computer lab with hubs, ethernet cables, and power strips. It is not efficient or easy and does get used very often. All in all, I would say it is easy for teachers to use technology at our school as a teaching tool, but we are not set up for students to use the technology themselves. Our staff needs to be more aware of the technology TEKS for their grade level and they need training on how to go about integrating technology. In the past few years, our Star Chart results have more or less stayed the same. We need a simple way to jumpstart technology use at our campus. Until the teachers get motivated to do it, nothing will happen. Future Vision and Direction In three years, we would like to see ALL grade-level teams planning for and implementing technology integration by using Learning.com to teach a skill and then planning a lesson where student have to use that skill in an assignment. We would also like to see our fifth graders performing at or above the Learning.com proficiency standard for the Technology Learning Assessment.
